In spite of my hope that it was in fact 1974, looks like we'll get something about Apple.

Done! It's harder for me to do the WTF selections from about 1984 on... I was pretty attuned by that point.

Apparently it wasn't released until 1997, to capitalize on the success of "Bitch" (the album, See It Through My Eyes was originally recorded in 1984).

Eddie and the Cruisers.  I actually liked Cafferty when Beaver Brown were a Springsteen knockoff on a small indie label -- it was amusing how slavishly they were imitating the E-Streeters. But once they started having actual radio hits... fuhgeddabouddit.
