27 June 2011: it's... a "classic" from 1981
« on: June 27, 2011, 09:14:59 AM »
No clues on FB, indeed no posts by AL all weekend. Is THIS the week she's out of town? If so, "classics" ahead.

Jeezus, talk about a "stop set": tuned in at 9:53 and KFOG was in commercials; 7 minutes later they still are.

sounds like '81 and sounds like a rerun to me.

those good Catholic boys from Ireland prove Latin is not a dead language.

BOS U2 and Gloria

1981.  That is THE prime Rush year, and since they played the Concord Pavilion last night, doing their Moving Picutures album in its entirety, I would almost bet we hear a cut from that.

RGM sez it's a classic set?

then maybe I'll be Searching for that in the archives.

if this were a new set, I'd agree but it's from last year: a set with the Good (Joan Jett), the Bad (Styx), and the 'Trin-y ("Magnificent 7").

Right.  The bad news is no Rush in the set :( , the good news is we get to hear Marty Balin (that's good news.. right?  :-\  )

Still willin' to bet??!  Won't spoil it, but hope Gaz is listening, as Marty Balin is coming up.
BTW Tink, I went to Alameda County Fair last four eve's, saw Charlie Daniels, Foghat, Tower of Power and last night Blue Oyster Cult.  Fun sets, TOP especially hot, as always.  I even got to chat a few minutes with all the guys from Foghat.  Did you know that two of them were in Savoy Brown (10at10 1969 staple "I'm Tired") prior to Foghat??

I'm tempted to say "Talk To Ya Later" and go back to 1340 The Boardwalk. In fact... I will.

I was real excited to see them open for Zappa at Winterland, since I was a big Savoy Brown fan.  They were terrible, and roundly booed after their set.  They still did an encore, and the lead singer (Lonesome Dave or something?) muttered something like "you can't please all the people all the time!"

BTW Tink, I went to Alameda County Fair each of last four eve's, saw Charlie Daniels, Foghat, Tower of Tower and last night Blue Oyster Cult.  Fun sets, TOP especially hot, as always.  I even got to chat a few minutes with all the guys from Foghat.  Did you know that two of them were in Savoy Brown (10at10 1969 staple "I'm Tired") prior to Foghat??

dude... Foghat came directly out of The Savoy Brown Blues Band.  As I understand it (from wikipedia, etc)  Savoy Brown leader Kim Simmonds and his brother manager were less that equal with the salary structure to the band members, so the rhythm guitarist (Lonesome Dave Peverett, who also sang), the bass player and drummer all skedaddled for greener pastures.

They added a lead guitarist and boogie blues RAWKers Foghat was born.  They replaced the bass player in the 70s, and then the two guitarists died in the 2000s.  However, the drummer and the bass player filled out the ranks with replacements of sorts (the two new guitarists each have decent rock pedigrees and the one that sings is a good frontman, he used to sing in Ted Nugent's band) and they have been soldiering on since for better or worse.

I saw them on Saturday night in Petaluma, double bill: Foghat and BÖC. It was fun. The big three Foghat hits (Fool for the City, Slow Ride and I Just Wanna Make Love To You) are all on my playlist.

How was Blue Oyster Cult? did they play Last Days Of May, the story of a drug deal gone bad?
