20 June 2011... Sax Appeal

Sax-solo classics in honor of Clarence. Nice idea. But I suspect this means no Summer Set on Tuesday.

Given the circumstances I can live with that. There are 75 posts in the request thread so far; not sure if it's worth throwing my .02 in at this point. But what the f***.
Let's get right to it.

I don't believe there's anything in the 10@10 constitution that says one can't have three specialty sets in a row (and three this week). Plus with the 4th coming up, it may be awhile before we have another full week of year sets.

I remember once towards the end of the Dave era we got three days in a row of ThemeSets. But it's rare.  I just figured since they re-ran last year's Summer Set on Memorial Day, AL might kick it to the curb.

AL told me that she's going back East for vacay and will have to replay last year's Pride set.  Wah.

actually, that's not too bad, as the 2 she has done (2009 and 2010) weren't that different anyway, and both were quite good.  My only request would've been that she repeat Carl Bean's "I Was Born This Way" (and NOT play Lady Gaga!) and maybe add Billy Bragg's "Sexuality". But a rerun will be just fine.

Of course, that's two alto sax songs in a row, but no sense getting technical about it...

David Sanborn checks in, blowing with the Thin White Duke. VHM Young Americans, even though it's far from a rarity.

Can we assume that Clarence himself will be represented with Jungleland, probably as Tune #10?

Youngs American sax not blowin me away. Tower of Power or Chicago would sound better.
