TANC-of-the-Week: I mentioned in one of the regional threads the other day that I'd heard the Outfield's "Your Love" 4 or 5 times this month and had had my fill of it... well, I'm watching the A's game and lo, Josh Willingham's at-bat music is... yup.  He was 7 years old when the song was a hit.

OK, can anyone here explain the "Giants/Red Sox Alliance" to me?

http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/fan_forum/vote_giants.jsp?tcid=fb-sf-upd0531

WTF? is it an attempt to keep the Dodgers and Yankees out of the All-Star Game? All well and good, except I hate the Red Sox too. What if the Giants and Sawx play each other in the World Series? Some "alliance", eh?  It does not compute.

Bill Mueller?
First I've heard of it.  I don't care for the BoSox either!

Atlanta Thrashers hockey team moves to Winnipeg

SJ Sharkie askes if they'll change their name to the old Winnipeg Jets monicker (thus making "Sharks vs Jets" games possible)

The Giants "It Gets Better" video is here! I heart you, Mr Zito.

http://outsports.com/jocktalkblog/2011/06/01/san-francisco-giants-release-it-gets-better-video-with-barry-zito-and-others/

ETA: it was posted on SFGate too; best comment there so far: "Best pitch Zito's made in several seasons".

Perhaps he's not familiar with the phrase "don't show up the pitcher or you'll be eating horsehide on your next AB."

Or maybe he's just a prick.
Let's get right to it.

prob both.  he did get hit in his first AB for the Class A Hagerstown team yesterday, so I'm sure he was miffed at that and just waiting for a chance to show up someone.

"Act like you've been there before!"

sort of related note - WTF is up with baseball players and their huge-ass necklaces?  (this kid has a necklace, but it's not out of control.. yet)

"Developed in Japan, the nylon-coated titanium necklaces are intended to promote pain relief and enhance performance through improved circulation and stress reduction.  There is no medical proof the Phiten necklaces actually work, though. The FDA does not approve the therapeutic claims made by the company and many doctors have said there is no indication that titanium affects performance.  Whether the necklaces actually help or are instead an example of the placebo effect, we may never know. All that matters is that in a superstitious sport like baseball, where elaborate pre-pitch routines involve clapping and batting glove adjustment, the Phiten necklaces only need to make the players think they work."

But nobody ever claimed puka shells actually did something!  Anything that promotes superstition in my book sucks.

I first started seeing them during last year's post-season. Several Giants wore 'em, but so did a number of players on other clubs. And now they're all over.

Bunch o' superstitious sheep if you ask me.
Let's get right to it.
