And you thought being a Giants fan was frustrating.

My first Sharks game was a great one: a 4-1 win over Calgary.  And Mike and I got the added benefit of nearby young men watching the game shirtless (painted "S-H-A-R-K-S" on their chests).  Ah, youth.

And Alicat will be interested to know we saw Drew Remenda walking in front of HP Pavilion around 4:30. I was too shy to say anything, I figured I might drool.   But someone had a HUGE "Welcome Back, Drew!" banner in the upper deck, and when they showed Drew on the Jumbotron the crowd went wild.

You guys were at an awesome game. I watched on TV. My game Thursday night was lousy. I heard Drew on the post game show on the radio as I drove home. From the Sharks site, http://www.sjsharks.com/news/news.asp?story_id=2922
Too shy? You gotta grab those moments when you can.

Wanna see me? Having fun as always. The fan photographer took my pic Thursday night and it's on the Sharks site, http://sjsharks.com/interactive/HPFanGame52.asp

Zito a Giant?

OMGWTFLOL!!!

Appears to be true.  This nearly makes up for the re-signing of Bonds. Guess that "He's a Bay Area guy who can be persuaded to stay here" thing turned out to be true.   Hooray and hoorah!

Zito must pass a physical for the contract to be finalized.

I volunteer to give him the physical.

My reaction is a shorter version of Mike's:

OMFG....

It's about damn time they stepped up and dished out some big cash. This is the first truly blockbuster deal the Giants have pulled off since they first signed that other Barry fifteen years ago.

Although to be fair, I wish they'd done it a couple years ago when Vlad Guerrero was on the block.
Let's get right to it.

ESPN's Peter Gammons (nice to see him working again) said that the Mets, Rangers and Mariners were the other teams seriously pursuing Zito. He didn't mention any salary figures, but I'm guessing the Giants' willingness to add a 7th year may have been key.  Either the Yanks weren't interested or they didn't get their shit together soon enough (they're supposedly trying to trade The Big Unit and some saw that as an attempt to make room for a big pitcher's salary -- sorry, Mr. Steinbrenner!).

More on the Zito signing and the other offers he got:

That bit about his dad calling the Yankees at the last minute is kinda weird.
