More hot stove news:

Jason Schmidt's a Dodger.

A's signed reliever Alan Embree and are close to signing Piazza to DH. Mr Beane wants Lastings Milledge from the Mets and (depending who you talk to) may trade Haren, Harden or Blanton for him.

And the Giants might pursue Zito (oh please let it be true!).

Uh-oh, they did it again:

http://sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/12/07/SPGVDMRUQ03.DTL

Bonds is a Giant for yet another season. $16M plus incentives. If he doesn't get his 22 dingers, does that mean he has to give back $8M of that? I'd call THAT an incentive.

And I suppose this means we're out of the Zito stakes, too. Now THAT would bite.

Effing Giants.
Let's get right to it.

But Rich Aurilia is back! When he was here with the Reds many months ago (I think you were at that day game when I was), I had a neon sign welcoming him back (and probably professing my love for him) and people were perplexed as to why I was dressed as a Giant and rooting for a Red. No explanation needed. C'mon Opening Day!

Bad bad Sharks game tonight. 0-1, 1-1, 1-2, 2-2; then it was all over, 2-5. I left with 5 minutes left and I NEVER , hardly ever, leave early. It sucked. No intensity from the players, no electricity in the crowd.

edited Sat. pm;
PS: Mike, were you watching on TV? I got emails on Friday from people saying they saw me on TV. Announcer said it looked like I was having a good time. I had on my teal santa hat and danced while waving a Sharkie plush in the air. Yeah, I'm fun to be with!

I'm a little sensitive right now (semi-riot/fights broke out at the very end of the holiday assembly at school on Friday) but I find the MNF "Jacked Up" shtick troubling.  With all the cool plays they make, why do we focus on the most violent ones?  Yeah, I know, we all like to see blood and guts and gore, but it just seems too much.

I hate that feature -- it's another example of trying to appeal to the young male thug demographic, and it's just embarrassing to hear Berman & Co. yelling "Jacked UP!!!" like a couple of drunken 17-year-olds.

I find all races of my students fascinated by the thug life.  It's pretty disgusting.

VERY nice. Really a season to look forward to. Aurilia and Klesko.

Hope they can find enough positions open for both of them to get playing time. I guess Aurilia and Klesko and Sweeney can trade off at first; Bonds, Klesko & Sweeney can spell one another in left; and Aurilia can fill in for Feliz and/or Durham at second and third. All of which sounds like quite the revolving-door lineup but since the lot of them are closer to 40 than 30 (except maybe Feliz) that might work out. Roberts will play center, but who the hell do we have in right?
Let's get right to it.

Between periods of the Sharks game (they're losing to Dallas) and the TV crew announces they have a "special guest". And it's Drew Remenda, the beloved former color commentator.  He's working for Hockey Night in Canada, and they're carrying the Sharks/Flames game this weekend, so he flew down a couple days early.  Hope to see him wandering around the Shark Tank on Saturday nite.
