CARDS WIN!

I'm sure Mark will chime in shortly after he finishes a glass or 2 of bubbly

I didn't really have a rooting interest but it's nice to see the NL win a WS for a change. And the Cards have been disappointed by coming close several years in a row, so good job.  And most importantly, as I said earlier in the thread, the pundits have been wrong throughout the post seaon. They said:

Twins would beat the A's
Yanks would beat the Tigers
A's would beat the Tigers
Mets would beat the Cards

So screw 'em all, hooray for the underdog!

Woo Hoo!!

One of the ESPN writers called the Cardinals "the worst enemy of Conventional Wisdom since the '88 Dodgers."

One thing that the pundits seem to have overlooked, and which I kept waiting for someone to point out, is that anytime the Cardinals had Preston Wilson & Ronnie Belliard in the lineup with either Carpenter or Suppan pitching, that would give them 7 players on the field with All-Star Game experience.  That's a lot of talent & a lot of veteran experience. Their mediocre record and near collapse at the end was brought on by injuries and fatigue, but in the playoffs with all the extra travel days (not to mention 3 games rained out) they got healthy and could rest up a little bit.  I actually picked the Cardinals to win in 5, and for Rolen & Molina to have a great series.  I didn't pick Eckstein to be the WS MVP, especially after he went 0-9 in the 2 games in Detroit, but in the 3 wins in St. Louis he went 8-13 with 4 RBIs & 3 Runs scored.  Not bad, eh?  (and I bet he likes my sig-quote, too).

p.s. - Now maybe I can forget about Don Denkinger.

He'll need a few phone books under his butt to drive that 'vette! (per ESPN he's the shortest WS MVP in history.)

Don't have a link, but Omar Vizquel won another Gold Glove yesterday.

And hey Gaz, one rumor floating around is: Pat Burrell as a Giant next year.

Omar is awesome. He's still going to be a Giant, yes?

The A's let Ron Washington get away -- the Rangers have hired him

Pujols wins his 1st Gold Glove, one more reason to think he'll repeat as MVP, although I doubt he'll care much if he doesn't, what with the World Series ring he's gonna get.

How does Brad Ausmus win over Yadier Molina?  According to ESPN Molina threw out 44% of attempted steals, compared to Ausmus 22%.  And how often does anyone other than Yadi pick a guy off of 1st?

That being said, Rolen earned his on past reputation, and I can't complain that Edmonds didn't do likewise.

Looks like the A's move to the south is a reality:

So... The Fremont A's? the Silicon Valley A's?  The South Bay A's?

Well, Oakland had their chance. Will the new ballpark be close to a BART station? That's one of the best things about their Oakland location--you can get there sans car, and sans traffic!
Let's get right to it.

The new location doesn't appear to be near BART. I'll still watch them on TV but I won't go to many games -- an hour BART + whatever trip (as opposed to the 25 min it takes me now) is not do-able on a weeknite, that's for sure. And tix will be scarce anyway, it'll be like the Sharks with Silicon Valley fat cats buying up season passes.

I tell ya...
It amazes me every time I'm there to see the tank filled up.
BTW, great Saturday night game. Good action and a win! I wish Cheechoo didn't get cited for misconduct.
I was checking out the fans with binoculars in between action and spied Neil Youngs seats directly across from me. Look to be in 128. Fun was had by all.
