Ok that cat poem was, um, disturbing.

Yeah, more than a little self-serving. And what did it have to do with Christmas again?

yeah, he lost me at "poop"

The David Bowie/Bing Crosby thing is always welcome, but I would have liked that setup intro dialog they do, too.

Love the Greg Lake I Believe in Father Christmas, but it's not necessarily a feel-good sing-along carol, innit?

speaking of cheese...

The guy at RCA who suggested "why don't we put that silly little Bowie/Crosby duet out as a single. Maybe it'll sell a couple copies" musta got a big bonus.

BOS5 Greg Lake. The Congress Christmas we get we deserve.

in that case you really got to check out the YouTube link I just posted.  John C. Reilly is Bing & Will Ferrell is Bowie, and they totally nail it...and you gotta stay with it to the very end.

This is an awful thingfor me to say, but "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" gets WOS for being a holiday Katrina.

You're right -- that *is* an awful thing to say.   ;)  But half this set was XmasTrinas. At least we avoided "Feliz Navidad".

in which case you probably wouldn't welcome Tull's "A Christmas Song" or the Kinks' "Father Christmas" either...

..but I would.

Has AL played Lennon's Happy Xmas (War is Over) in either of the preceding holiday sets?

Ah, I thought not.

Gaz, I agree that HX(WiO) def. falls into the Katrina category by any definition. But I think certain songs are ones need to be heard, they're a touchstone of the holidays, and hearing them triggers a dose of seasonal sentiment, at least in me.
Let's get right to it.

BTW, just heard from the Princess of Cairo -- she's in Memphis, as it turns out, but will be in SF for New Years.

And I must say this is my first Xmas in a number of years without KPIG, which is usually a lot of fun at the holidays -- they are missed.

no, I do like them a lot, in fact.   (Kinks can do no wrong, in any case)

I was just commenting on the tone of "I Believe in Father Christmas" -- in the middle of all this "passing around the coffee and the pumpkin pie" we get with the super-sweet traditional songs, we get hit with this powerful message about lost innocence and the commercialization.  It completely fits and deserves to be heard, just as "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" needs to be heard over and over (as urth points out).

Happy holidays to all of you. You mean a lot to me! I listened to the set but just got to the computer. I hope we have the chance to get together next week. Maybe SF on Thursday?

I am jetting up to SF momentarily. Hopefully lunch at Public House and shopping at Dugout store.  :D
