I don't usually feel Fogheads are dumb, but it definitely occurred to me hearing the Monkees won.  Gee, do  you think the average Foghead doesn't remember 1967?

LOL! Well, they remember that Monkees TV show they saw in syndication as a kid. So, that's "1967" to them.

Bonus track
« Reply #34 on: June 17, 2005, 03:16:15 PM »
If anyone was interested, today's bonus track was Love's Alone Again, Or. Wonder how much say Dave has in picking those, or if it's entirely up to Annalisa? Either way, a nice choice today.

And another superb week of 10@10s--four of the five were darn fine (the 83 set being the one subpar example, and it wasn't that bad.)
Let's get right to it.

I don't agree, anyway.  Nothing at all wrong with "I'm A Believer," except maybe that it's played a little too often.  What's your complaint with it?

Oh, I have nothing against the song itself at all.

I just think that given the wonderful choice of musicians we got today- picking the group that was created for a TV show (a group made up of, like, one musician & some actors who learned mighty quick, from what I understand) is a little like being presented a feast of delicious, fresh home-cooked food and chosing instead to eat some McDonald's you picked up on the way home.

Or, to put it another way: I'm being an elitist....

I certainly wouldn't call the Monkees the best artists of the set.  But the song itself is a pop gem.  Still, I woulda voted for the Who, myself.  But "I'm a Believer" never fails to satisfy.  And I wouldn't call someone dumb just because they voted for it.

Now, the people who vote for Bay City Rollers....

Fair enough. I'll withdraw "dumb". Apologies if I've offended anyone here.

In it's place I'll say: "Fogheads? Too bad so many of them who called in to vote weren't able to appreciate the other artists enough. Perhaps many of them were hearing those artists for the first time and, since they were "unfamiliar" to them- they chose to go with something they knew".

Not biting on the Bay City Rollers elitism, eh?  Should have included ABBA.  Anyway, here's a funny "idiot Rod" story:

So, Sharlene is listening via the web these days.  When "I'm A Believer" came on this morning,  I responded to one of our emails, quoting some lyrics in a totally sappy/loveydovey way.  Sadly, I later found out, I replied to THE WRONG EMAIL, sending the sappy message to our Network Administrator and system architect instead.  It wasnt' til much later when the Network guy replied -- quit monkeying around! -- that I realized my error.  The system architect guy is out today, so I'll have to suffer through some more embarassment Monday.

Sharlene thinks it's hilarious!

Can I borrow your tamborine, Beej?

I'm one who really wishes I'd heard the bonus.  There is definitely something going on here; the shows are definitely not being 'phoned in' as they sometimes seem to be.

Listening on the evening recap, but didn't get the tape going in time.  Hope Urth did better.

Ultimately, yes, but only by the skin of my teeth. Missed getting last night's repeat as we were out to dinner & were in the car on the way home when the set started. So this am when Sarah left for work a little before 7, I got up & started the tape, figuring I'd catch it whenever it aired, and went back to bed. Arose later, in time to hear the end of 83 and most of the 75 set, and nearly shut off the deck when Dave's bumper at the end indicated that the next set would be 94. Lucky for me I didn't, as the final set was actually yesterday's 67--whew! (The engineers that work on Saturday mornings must not be the brightest bulbs, eh?)

And I, too, think Rod's faux pas was a hoot but give him big props for deciding to share it with us anyway.

PS--Hey Alicat, how's the new gig going?
Let's get right to it.

Indeed, they swapped the '94 and '67 sets -- it was a rude awakening at around 7:50 when Dave said '67 was next and it turned out to be '94. Needless to say I dozed off again    But Dave's set-up, "Saving the best for last -- 1994!" was overdoing it a tad.
