26 March 2010: will Urth be right? yep, it's 1996
« on: March 26, 2010, 09:25:10 AM »

Just noticed that in the last two weeks, the "newest" year-based set AL has done is 1980--with several great theme sets, and a couple of 60s sets for good measure. Nicely played, AL--although I'll bet that run ends tomorrow.

I've been thinking the same thing.   Have to wait & see.

If it's a less interesting latter day set, maybe y'all can take one last crack at my scavenger hunt.

I'm thinking either '90s or a surprise theme (like a "food" set inspired by the article on food songs in yesterday's Chron)

VHM to Gin Blossoms, but I'm hoping for at least one WTF bustout in '96.

You read my mind. AL says "every year is a good year" but i beg to differ. She mentioned "The macarena" -- she wouldn't do that to us, would she?  I predict some JCM.

ooo! I can BOS No Doubt. Gwen S when she was good.

Undoubtedly a bustout though.

Yup, No Doubt's breakthrough was 14 years ago.  Oof.

Not the best song on Being There, but as that album was something I listened to a lot in late 96, I'm enjoying hearing this in the context of 10@10, so I'll give it a thumbs up. And strangely enough, likewise for No Doubt, even tho I was only hearing it via radio play.
Let's get right to it.

And if you'd told me then that Gwen Stefani would become such a media icon that Carly Fiorina (in the last year of her HP tenure) would trot her out on stage at her CES Keynote speech as her celebrity du jour, I'd have said you were certifiable.

The "Upcoming" window on the player just busted a song that we'll be hearing later--another serious BOS candidate that should take away anyone's pain. 'Nuff said for now.

VHM "Smelly Cat"!  Phoebe still rules.

indeed, her post-ND popularity baffles me. "Hollaback" and "Rich Girl" are easily 2 of the most annoying songs of the last 20 years.

I saw that, so I'll wait until it rolls around before I start pining for the other song of theirs that I've always wished we'd hear on 10@10.
