19 Feb 2010: B-Sides!
« on: February 17, 2010, 08:49:49 PM »
They're doing another "Vinyl Friday" on the Morning Show, and AL will continue the theme with 10 B-sides -- I seem to recall Dave doing this once some years back.

"Time everlasting... time to play B-sides..."

Released in 1983 'Attack of the Killer B's' was a compilation promoting some of the current acts on the label. At the time, these were non-lp tracks. Now, some can be found on some bonus track CD's etc. Track listing - 'You're My Favorite Waste of Time' MARSHALL CRENSHAW -'Babysitter' THE RAMONES - 'Shock Den Affen' PETER GABRIEL - 'Producer' GANG OF FOUR - 'In The Sticks' PRETENDERS - 'Take Time to Know Her' JOHN HIATT - 'Grace' THE TIME - 'Amnesia and Jealousy (Oh Lana)' T-BONE BURNETT - 'What Will Lucy Do?' THE BLASTERS - 'Always Unknowing' ROXY MUSIC - 'Love Goes to a Building on Fire' TALKING HEADS - 'Walk the Dog' LAURIE ANDERSON.

I still have this LP on vinyl!

I think my all-time favorite B-sides might be Aretha Franklin's "Oh Me Oh My (I'm a Fool for You Baby)" and the Beatles' SFF.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

VHM "Don't Worry Baby."  Did radio stations at the time flinch at the "she makes love to me" line?

some, yes. Remember that there were 2 versions of "Help Me Rhonda", one said "She was gonna be my lover..." and the other said "...my wife..."

Richie Unterberger showed some Gene Vincent clips in one of his presentations last year.  I didn't know much about him, like the chronic pain from the accident that gave him a bad limp.

I think the clip from a Denmark concert showed him really bending over, in pain, but he used the stance to some good "rocker" effect.  Richie mentioned there's footage of him coming back to the stage on cruches.

Back then, "making love" was not exclusively carnal. Hard to hear it now any other way.
