I'm not counting, but it will probably be over soon, too soon.

Feliz Navidad by Los Lonely Boys?

Yep--sounds like it was channeled thru Los Lobos and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

the first few notes were stone cold SRV, and I wondered what he did as a xmas tune!

I'm blocking this last tune too, but AL is about to backannounce!

Charles Brown? I was fooled, it sounded like some current KFOG fave.

I think Mr Brown has done 3 or 4 versions of both "PCHFC" and "Merry Xmas Baby" over the years; I've no idea which version AL played, but you're right, it did not sound like the one I'm used to hearing.

12/24/09 - Thursday!  It's the 10@10 Christmas Card!

   1.  The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
   2.  Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas
   3.  John & Yoko - Happy Christmas (War is Over)
   4.  The Pretenders - Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas
   5.  David Bowie/Bing Crosby - Little Drummer Boy
   6.  Hootie & the Blowfish - The Christmas Song
   7.  Tim Hockenberry - Christmas By the Bay
   8.  The Beach Boys - Little Saint Nick
   9.  Los Lonely Boys - Feliz Navidad
  10.  Charles Brown - Please Come Home For Christmas

BONUS TRACK:  Graham Parker & Nona Hendryx - Soul Christmas

Btw, the KFOG webmaster is getting his work done early--there's a classic set dated tomorrow (!) that's already posted on the 10@10 page. So will there be a different set in the morning, then the Xmas card set again tomorrow night? That wouldn't seem to go with the promise of 24 hours of Xmas music. Maybe just to fill out the marathon for Saturday.

ETA: Four bustouts in this year's Xmas card, by my count: Hootie, Tim Hockenberry, Charles Brown (Dave played MCB, but not PCHFC), and believe it or not, the Bing-and-Bowie tune.

Hope everyone stuck around  for that too too fab bonus -- LOVE that one, and it's hard to find these days. The Graham Parker Xmas EP it was on is long out-of-print afaik, and it ain't on the YouTubes neither. Rosalie said she'd played it the other day and got a bunch of "OMG what *was* that?" calls.

Indeed, the other set on the website is there for marathon purposes (bet the 2 Xmas sets get played 1st and 2nd on Sat AM).  And I'm gobsmacked to see that Dave never played Bing/Bowie -- coulda sworn we heard it in the last couple of years.

You may be right. After I posted that I realized that the DB is not entirely complete in its cataloging of Xmas Card sets. It lists, 2002, 2004, 2007, and 2008. Now I know Dave took at least one year off and didn't do the Xmas card thing in '05 and/or '06, but 2003 is also MIA. So it could well have appeared in one of those years.

And yes, that GP/Nona Hendryx tune was superb. Wish I'd recorded that too.

When I get the new PC set up and Comcast-High-Speed-ed, I'll have to make an mp3 of "Soul Xmas" available. But if you can find that Parker Xmas EP on Amazon for a reasonable price, grab it -- it rules.

Fewer greetings this year. Of course, we only had a day or two to call in our greetings--Dave used to do it for like a week.

Yeah, it occurred to me during the replay this morning that this was maybe the shortest Xmas Card ever (less than 45 mins; Dave's routinely ran close to an hour). Dave really used to work with the Fogheads, coaxing greetings out of kids, letting them give longer greetings if he liked what they were saying, etc. So he would try to cram in as many as possible.  Whether AL didn't have that kind of time or just didn't get the sort of Foghead response that DM used to, is hard to say.

Guess it was asking too much, but I kinda hoped against hope we'd hear a greeting *from* Dave this year. I also expected a Foghead or 2 to say "Merry Xmas to Dave in Michigan".

That thought crossed my mind too--that Dave might actually do a shoutout to the Fogheads, but not to be. And it just plain didn't occur to me to send one his way--it was all I could do to get all of y'all's names in there!

I'm just now catching up on threads, and needless to say missed the Xmas set entirely.  Don't suppose anyone happened to record it?

Also - I managed to not hear "Christmas Wrapping" a single time this season. :(

This SF Xmas by the Bay thing is NTM. Nice. There's a song called "Xmas in San Francisco" by Barry DeVorzon (yes, he of "Nadia's Theme") that KFRC used to play every year in their oldies days that was also quite lovely.

TANC: Casey K mentioned (and I had completely forgotten) that Rhythm Heritage's "Theme from S.W.A.T" was also written by Mr DeVorzon!
