OMG, I just realised I've been sucked in. Morbid amusement. I really do want to see week four.

Me too -- this show is my current guilty pleasure, and I HATE American Idol and all that kinda crap.  This week was maybe the best lineup, talent-wise; no glaringly obvious idiot like Vanilla Ice.  Some of the covers were indeed bizarre.  Wang Chung's white-boy version of "Hot in Herre" was amusing, and Cameo almost pulled off funkifying Bowling For Soup's "1985".  Best fit: Howard Jones doing Dido.  And Irene Cara won, the first time the oldest contestant got the most votes.

And Sophie B is still hot.

Sounds great but dude's wearing a mighty silly hat.

you mean the might silly hat on his penis?

(I really did not need to see a bright red codpiece, tonight or ever)

Started the DVR but watched the first 4 acts come onstage before realizing that my 3 year old was not going to sleep, have to watch the rest tomorrow.

Yeah, I'm hooked now too.

In the early '70s, as a teen, I said that some station should play "softer" rock tunes -- people who considered themselves too young for "muzak" would listen to a station like that. A couple years later, "mellow" formats sprangup everywhere, and evolved into "lite rock". Around '79 or '80 I said that, given the success of the "oldies" format, someone should do "album oldies". People laughed, but a few years later, "classic rock" was all the rage.

One morning in 1996, Dave played "My Maria" on 10@10 and I commented that BW Stevenson sounded a lot like the guy from Brooks & Dunn -- "they should do a remake", I said. Less than 2 months later their version was released and was a #1 country hit.

If only this worked with lottery numbers...

Tonite's the nite for Greg Kihn on HMBOMT. Here's Brad Kava, from his SJ Merc Radio Blog:

"Today is the day KUFX-FM (98.5) deejay Greg Kihn competes in Los Angeles on the NBC show "Hit Me Baby One More Time," ... it will air [tonight] at 9 p.m.

He goes against Billy Vera, Club Nouveau, Glass Tiger and Thelma Houston (who will be his biggest challenge).

I think the fact that he's playing the current hit by East Bay rockers Green Day, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams," gives him a solid chance, even though the voting TV audience favors R&B acts.

Don't just watch this on TV. Head down to Double D's Sports Grill in Los Gatos (at the corner of Highway 9 and Santa Cruz Avenue), where the staff of KUFX is hosting a party to root him on from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m."

Damn, I've got a 9pm softball game tonight.  And I aint got no TIVO.

Though, considering my reaction to last weeks show, which and Suzie B Hawkwad (cant remember her name right, but she was pathetic), I'm okay with missing it...  Go Greg!

I'm tuned in and waiting. He taped it last night and talked a bit on this morning's show but confidentiality prevented him from talking about results. I hope he wins but I'll be rooting for Thelma too.

Greg sounded OK,  but man he got all sweaty after what appeared to be not much exertion. I'm looking forward to the interview when he comes on for round two.

It looks like in the audience they moved all the pretty young things up front and the guys are relegated to upper levels.
