Rev. Sharptons comments to the kids that their dad wasn't strange but had strange circumstances to deal with (or something to that effect) was touching.
I call that "denial" but that's just me.  Sharpton is as much a charlatan as any right-wing preacher. Don't get me started.

no, not just you.  That was pandering on Big Skinny Al's part.

Berry Gordy mentioned Michael made some unfortunate decisions.   I assumed he wasn't talking about leaving Motown for Epic.

Been listening to a comprehensive J-5 best-of ("Jackson 5 Gold", a 2-disc set). Thankfully it includes some cool early B-sides like "I Found That Girl" and "Darling Dear" and their fab cover of "Doctor My Eyes" -- I had to buy a British GH of theirs to get that on vinyl back in the '80s.

NTM: "Love Song", last track on disc 1, apparently the B-side of "Looking Thru the Windows"; both of those, like "Never Can say Goodbye", written by the late Clifton Davis.

chk out this 1979 Jet piece on MJ.  very interesting, right at the cusp of adulthood, right before Off The Wall came out. He talks about the nasty sex-change rumor going  around then, which is just sad.  He mentions some fan throwing herself on him, and when he showed no interest, she called him a "fag".  He had it tough, for sure, trying to synch his religious upbringing with the life/lives he wanted to lead.

wow, thanks -- that's amazing. needless to say, i think if he hadn't been raised a strict Jehovah's Witness, he'd've had a healthier attitude towards his, er, personal life.

A clip of an unreleased song has surfaced on the web. Called "A Place With No Name" it's based on the America song "Horse With No Name" and was supposedly recorded with their permission.
http://bit.ly/fgZAA

Btw, the clip they link to is just 25 seconds long, but is looped to repeat several times.

TANC, sorta (speaking of "permission"): I'm listening to Essential Jacksons, alll the brothers Epic stuff, and I'm still baffled by the name-change of "Heartbreak Hotel" to "This Place Hotel" -- ya can't copyright a title.

He was also the King of Double Negatives!
this might have to go in the Copy Edit 101 thread, too:  In the loop I just listened to, MJ sings "Take me to a place without no name."

The last time he was in SF, MJ listened to the Live 105 morning show, and he wasn't fond of the host...

And obviously, sis Janet (who loves her some America) advised Michael, "those guys are a goldmine!"
