The Drive, 5/8/09: Mother's Day!
« on: May 07, 2009, 09:45:28 AM »
I don't think anyone's done a Mom set before. Suggestions?

John Lennon, "Mother"
Intruders "I'll Always Love My Mama"
Beatles (yay) "Your Mother Should Know"

I really hope Bob doesn't play "Bohemian Rhapsody" just cause of the "mama" part.

let's get nuts:
One Nation Under a Groove! -- or any Funkadelic from the Mothership
anything from the Mothers of Invention

ABBA - Mamma Mia

Styx - Renegade -- "oh, mama..."  fits into the Bohemian Rhapsody class -- mere mention of "mama"

And then there's the gawdawful Genesis-when-they-sucked song that's actually called Mama. I'd much rather hear Peter Gabriel's Mother of Violence.
Let's get right to it.

oh we'll definitely get that one. Guaranteed.

Shirelles -- "Mama Said"
Supes -- "I'm Living in Shame"

would Bob dare play Merle Haggard's "Mama Tried"?

I like the Supes suggestion.  Also: Junior, "Mama Used to Say."
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

OMG if Bob played that I'd fly to Chicago and blow him personally.  Not holdin' my breath.

Bob gots to have a "Mother Popcorn" for me. But I hope he avoids Crapton's "Motherless Children who have a hard time when their mother is dead, lawd".  ;)

But I bet we get Pink Floyd's "Mother"

I immediately thought of those last two suggestions (Floyd & Simon) and as I read further down the thread I was beginning to wonder about you guys, but finally there they are.

One more: Roxy Music's incomparable Mother of Pearl.

I'd never trade you for another girl.

(10 Frink points if you can tell me what they're singing about.)

Bread, "Mother Freedom"!

Schoolhouse Rock, "Mother Necessity."  (Where would we be?)

How could we forget:

Stones, "Mother's Little Helper"
Ozzy "Mama I'm Coming Home"
EJ "Mama Can't Buy You Love"
Quiet Riot (or Slade) "Mama Weer All Crazee Now"
J-5 "Mama's Pearl"
TFF, "Mother's Talk"

Given the many options, it's amazing Dave never did a Mother's Day set.  But I hope Bob avoids "Motorcycle Mama"...

Webster & Co did a My 3 Moms around 6:30 --

"Mother Little helper"
"Mother & Child Reunion"
"Take Your Mama Out"

safe bet that Bob plays the first 2; I'll be shocked if the Drive's listeners even know who Scissor Sisters *are*.

Bob leads off with the Beatles, natch.
