CG/KPOO/KCDX etcetcetc for the week of 4/27/09
« on: April 27, 2009, 09:53:19 AM »
KPOO's Marilynn played a fab (and NTM) Ike & Tina cover of JB's "Please Please Please" with a long spoken intro in which Tina attends the wedding of her lover to another woman. Lawd!

OMG! 'LNG plays Derek's soundalike followup to "Cinnamon", "Back Door Man".  Someone should introduce him to Andy Kim.

wow, here's The Archies' pre-"Sugar" "Bang-Shang-A-Lang", even more rarely-heard than "Jingle Jangle", which is saying something.

a pretty cool retro-chart on CG this week, from August 1986:

01.   Chris De Burgh - The Lady In Red
02.   Madonna - Papa Don't Preach
03.   Sly Fox - Let's Go All The Way
04.   Rod Stewart - Every Beat Of My Heart
05.   Sinitta - So Macho/Cruising
06.   Stan Ridgway - Camouflage
07.   Hollywood Beyond - What's The Colour Of Money
08.   UB40 - Sing Our Own Song
09.   Robert Palmer - I Didn't Mean To Turn You On
10.   Five Star - Find The Time
11.   Haywoode - Roses {1986}
12.   Owen Paul - My Favourite Waste Of Time
13.   The Jesus And Mary Chain - Some Candy Talking
14.    Audrey Hall - Smile
15.   Spandau Ballet - Fight For Ourselves
16.   Bananarama - Venus
17.    Gwen Guthrie - Ain't Nothin' Goin' On But The Rent
18.   The Smiths - Panic
19.   Steve Winwood - Higher Love
20.   The Housemartins - Happy Hour

Hadn't heard the Housemartins' wonderful "Happy Hour" in ages. And Stan (Wall of Voodoo) Ridgeway's "Camouflage" was a top ten hit in the UK? Did nothing here -- I always thought of it as an '80s counterpart to "Big Bad John" and songs of that ilk.

J&M Chain's "Some Candy Talking" is NTM, as is Owen Paul (who??) with a Calypso-inflected cover of Marshall Crenshaw's "Favorite Waste of Time".

I'd never heard of this until now.  Was unable to make it through 2 minutes of it on YouTube - ugh.

over to 'LNG in time for the Cowsills to wash the taste of Bob's '81 crapfest outta my mouth with "Indian Lake" -- a much better summer vacation song than Diesel's.
