Dave loves himself some SL #23.

Today on Jerry Springer: "Men who Love SL #23 Too Much"

Hope this is not an omen of a Katrinafest.

I've never heard this Talking Heads song before; am I the only one who hears the riff from "99 Luftballons" in that bassline?

Indeed--I know we've heard early Heads before, but not sure if Uh-Oh Love Comes to Town has been busted. Anyone's memory better than mine? At least a VHM in any case.

And now it's the ARS--Dave loves him some of this, too.
Let's get right to it.

Dave has definitely played it before though it's FAR from a '77 regular. A fine fine tune. Tentative BOS unless he really pulls out a jaw-dropping surprise.

I think maybe we did once before, but I have no surety in my memory.

Ooooh, here's some tasty Alan Parsons.

Ah yes.  I remember wondering when this was released how they got Ray Davies to do vocals? Whoever the singer is (uncredited on the record I think) is sure aping Ray's vocal style.

And I love this Norman Whitfield homage/rip-off part.

I like these claps-on-the-off-beat, a tactic perhaps gleaned from "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" alongside the strings?

Veering off-topic b/c I'm reading Billboard while listening: Def Leppard is releasing a covers album later this year.  The tracks recorded are more than a little intriguing: where'd they become familiar with Jobriath?!

Here are tracks that have been recorded for the all-covers album:

"10538 Overture" (ELO)
"20th Century Boy" (T. Rex)
"Don't Believe a Word" (Thin Lizzy)
"Drive in Saturday" (David Bowie)
"Hanging on the Telephone" (Blondie)
"Hellraiser" (Sweet)
"He's Gonna Step on You Again" (John Kongos)
"No Matter What" (Badfinger)
"Little Bit of Love" (Free)
"Rock On" (David Essex)
"Stay With Me" (The Faces)
"Street Life" (Roxy Music)
"The Golden Age of Rock & Roll" (Mott The Hoople)
"Waterloo Sunset" (The Kinks)
"American Girl" (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers)
"Heartbeat" (Jobriath)
"How Does It Feel" (Slade)
"Kick Out the Jams" (MC5)
"Roxanne" (The Police)
"Dear Friends" (Queen)
"When I'm Dead and Gone" (McGuinness Flint)
"Winter Song" (Lindisfarne)
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

Best Narada of Set: The Mighty Pope's "Heaven on the 7th Floor". Though I'd really like the cheeze of Paul Nicholas's version just once, Dave.
