Another "Band," but this one gets a WOS vote from me.  Never cared for this CCR track, especially that line about the state militia.

the song predates Kent State; maybe John was psychic.

Meant to ask: Was "Uncle John's Band" the first instance of "God damn" in a chart hit?  Wasn't all that long since the D-word had kept Spanky & Our Gang out of the Top 40, and that was without the G-word appended ...

Was "UJB" a charted single? I don't have Whitburn handy.

Made Hot 100 but not Top 40 - I think it peaked at #69 or thereabouts.

I'm wondering if Steppenwolf's "The Pusher" charted at around the same time.

Good thinking of that, but AMG doesn't have "Pusher" in its list.  I'm surprised at how many singles they charted with in the '70s, though; I've never heard of some of these:

1968    Born To Be Wild       Pop Singles    2
1968       Magic Carpet Ride       Pop Singles   3
1969   It's Never Too Late       Pop Singles   51
1969   Move Over       Pop Singles   31
1969   Rock Me       Pop Singles   10
1970       Hey Lawdy Mama       Pop Singles   35
1970       Screaming Night Hog       Pop Singles   62
1970       Who Needs Ya       Pop Singles   54
1971   For Ladies Only       Pop Singles   64
1971   Ride With Me       Pop Singles   52
1971   Snow Blind Friend       Pop Singles   60
1974       Straight Shootin' Woman       Pop Singles   29

1974       Straight Shootin' Woman       Pop Singles   29

Thanks for that -- I don't remember "Straight Shootin' Woman" at ALL; it spent all of 3 weeks in the Top 40, muscling its way to #29 quickly and then dropping like a stone. TANC: if Classic Kasem does '74 in the next 3 weeks, we'll hear it!
