"It's so deep!  It's so wide!"  It's so self-important I want to swallow my tongue!

On the other hand, I always quite liked the vivid imagery of "S2."

What's with all the damn Police lately? This is the second Police double-play in the last week. Once, fine but I'm sorry, this is not acceptable. Besides, they'd started sucking by this point. (Props to them for packing it in after this album though. Remarkable self-awareness on Sting's part.)

My, these crankypants are a bit snug, aren't they?
Let's get right to it.

OK, if I can't enjoy this Human League track then I hate fun.  I never get tired of pointing out how clumsy that synth riff is, and yet I grin like a child every time I hear it.  And the lead-vocal tradeoff was an inspired arrangement.

BOS #2, "Fascination"

If this didn't get your ass out onto the dance floor that year, then nothing would.

I think the bass line compensates for the synth riff, and this is one of those relatively rare dance tunes that also an infectious sing-along.

Another quintessential '83 track: "The Walls Came Down"

I don't think there are any Russians!

Clumsy? it sounds downright out-of-tune, no? And yet it works. We are in complete agreement.
