I was actually going to post on "Ariel"!  I wish I could warm up to it, but to my ears it's only Gun Hill Road's "Back When My Hair Was Short" with different period details.

"Lucille" at #5 brought back memories; it was a favorite of my dad's (he used to tell a joke whose payoff line was "you picked a fine time to leave me, loose wheel").

Slightly off-topic (since I didn't hear the ATF Gaz is referencing), but whenever I think of  Lucille, I'll always think of Country Dick Montana and the Beat Farmers' wacky take on it, where Dick builds it into an angry, profanity-laced rant against "that goddamned ignorant kcufing c*nt Lucille--you BITCH!!!" Lowbrow, yes, but still funny as hell. I miss that band.

The rumor I'd heard at the time was that it wasn't actually Janet on the record, that the female vox were solely Lisa Keith done in pure mimickry style, Janet's name being added to give the record a sales/visibility punch.

Damn! Country crossover RULES!  Gaz will get to hear Boomer Castleman's "Judy Mae", as well as Tanya Tucker's "Lizzie & the Rainman".  And of course Ray Stevens' fantabulous cover of "Misty" -- one of my favorite remakes EVER.

Quite possibly the most fucked-up theme for a hit tune ever, next to "Timothy."  Yikes.

This is indeed a treat.  I really enjoyed that Ray Stevens cover of "Misty," and I have to give a nod to Gladys's l-o-n-g opening monologue to "The Way We Were."  But BOS to Smokey Robinson's ode to spambot-preventing character sequences: "Baby That's a CAPTCHA."

XM has added Rick Dees' show from the 80's and 90's on weekends now too as well as Casey's show.

I'd be interested in hearing a few of those.  It was Dees's more casual and celebutastic take on the show that informed Ryan Seacrest's current embarrassment of the concept.

I had a chance to hear some of Rick Dees' old show on Saturday. It was from June 17, 1989 with guest host Michael Damian. Much different style then Casey's shows. Less serious and it is more casual. It's like a morning FM show. Interestingly, Rick Dees is still on the air with his top 40 show (on rick.com) where he has 3 different versions of the top 40, "Hit Radio", "Hot Adult" and "Rhythmic".

In at #33 on Casey's '80s, one I haven't heard in years: "Sentimental Street."  This one tugs a nerve for me.
