For October 8-9

The 70s:

October 9, 1976

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/10-09-76.pdf

wow, '76 is easily the most-visited '70s year on these Classic Caseys in 2011. Lots of songs we just heard a few weeks back on this chart -- I may skip this one entirely.

Just found out that Magic 98 in Wisconsin, which has been running the '70s version on Sat nites for years, has added the '80s version on Sunday afternoons -- noon-4 Central time, 10-2 Pacific, meaning same time as the Canadian version sundaygal & I are usually tuned in to.  Could come in handy this winter when the Canucks have hockey on occasionally.

Ooo...thanks for the tip, RG!  I'll have to bookmark that station on my phone and laptop.  Still holding out for Oldies 103.7 to pick up both years.  Seems like an obvious choice for them (both decades, too), no?

Light posting today, and I'll probably bail after the first hour, but BOS1 Mr Manilow, one of his this-shoulda-been-bigger 45s. Short version (I hope) of Frampton's "DYFLWD".

VHM Norman Connors with one of the most WTF sexual metaphors ever.

John Denver at the end of his streak: I don't remember "Like a Sad Song" at all.

Spinners put a big rubber band between they toes.

Jeezus how many Wolfman Jack cameo appearances have made the Top 40? WOS Flash Cadillac, cashing in on the burgeoning '50s-nostalgia craze.

Duets-R-Us:  VHMs EJ & Kiki and Toni & the Captain.

VHM the Richie Family, hay haaaaay!  BOS2 the Brothers and their johnsons.

BOS3 the Beach Boys' forgotten "It's OK".

Did I mention I spoke to Barry DeVorzon recently?  BOS4 "Nadia's Theme".

"you are the woman!"  "No, YOU be the woman -- I was the woman LAST time!"

ah, memories...  VHM Firefall.

VHM Miss Ross, 'cause she da boss, and "One Love in My Lifetime" is a fine forgotten 45.

I'd love to hear Charo do a cover of "Fernando". Can joo hear de drums?

"There was someting in the air dat night, da stars were bright, CUCHI CUCHI!"

And while we're at it, the Latin chick from Modern Family needs to star in a Charo biopic on Lifetime.

BOS5 "Love So Right"

VHM Gordo, in a musty old hall in Dee-TROY-it.

and another VHM to Silver, whose "Wham Bam" One-Hit-Wonder is always a delight to hear.

Sorry, Rollers, I still prefer the Tourists' cover of "I Only Wanna Be With You".

Final BOS before I haed out: Ms Ronstadt, "That'll Be The Day When I Don't Yell"

'80s Hour 1: Rick Springfield shamelessly recycles "Jessie's Girl" on "I Get Excited".

Oh Toni Basil you're so fine, even when you "take it like a man". Not so .38 Special: WOS1 "You Keep Running Away". She's running away because you suck, guys.

"Athena" is not the 'oo at their best. She's a bomb, alright.

CSN seach for a woman, girl. Or a woman-girl. or something. WOS2.  And WOS3 REO.

BOS1 the other Sylvia with "Nobody"

uber-WOS4 Rush, of course!

BOS2 BJ's "Pressure", our first-hour "extra".

and a CKRU extra: Joni's "Carey"!

Hour 2: VHM Evelyn (no Champagne) King, makin' her lurve come down; Gap Band drops a BOS3 "Bomb".

eek: there's a reason nobody remembers Toto's "Make Believe". VHM Kim Carnes' equally-forgotten "Voyeur", sounding surprisingly good to me this morning.

WOS5 Steel Breeze: not Kim Fowley's finest hour. But BOS4 Neil Diamond's ode to E.T.

Glenn Frey's "The One You Love" is one of his least smarmy, so HM. The Money man thinks he's in love.

Givin' each otha da 4-1-1 on who drop-kicked who this week: uber-BOS5 Ree Ree's fab Luther V-produced "Jump To It". This was beyond huge on NYC urban radio in '82. shabba-dood'n-doo-dweedah!

A marriage made in hell: Kenny Loggins & Steve Perry. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!  WOS6 and LOL that Casey had to explain that "Kenny sings the first verse, then Steve Perry, then they sing together"

Yet another forgotten one: Kool & the Gang, "Big Fun", not one of their greats but, er, fun.

Hour 3: Joan Jett asks "Do You Wanna Touch Me?" and a million lesbians scream "YEEEEEESSSS!!!" BOS6.

Always a BOS7 for "Gloria".  Cheezeball VHM "Up Where We Belong" -- Richard Gere in uniform = *swoon*.

WOS7 Santana, "Hold On".

JC(no "M" yet) hurts so good.

VHM Sweet Melissa M, channelling the Cars. "She's in LURVE witchoo, boy!"

WOS8 ONJ, "Heart Attack" -- man , this has been a chart of extremes.

DAMN -- without that first hour we miss Kermit's "Rainbow Connection", Mr Manilow's Ian Hunter cover, Ashford & Simpson's "Found a Cure" and JD Souther's stellar "You're Only Lonely". 'Tis a shame.

But per the folks at the AT40 Geek Board, Kermit is one of the extras, as is Anne Murray's lovely "Broken-hearted Me"

But Hour 1 begins with Chris Thompson's graduation/memorial service classic, "If You Remember Me". VHM. I barely remember the Doobs' "Dependin' on You".

VHM EWF, "ATLIG". But -- NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! -- not Mr Lowe! "Cruel" indeed.

VHM John Stewart's forgotten "Gold" follow-up, "Midnight Wind"... which comes right after a Midnight burrito.

BOS Mr Dylan -- but you may call him Zimmy.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!2: Styx, "Babe". But VHM Michael Johnson, "This Night Won't Last Forever"

BOS2 Jennifer Warnes' wonderfully Ronstadt-esque "I Know a Heartache When I See One". Proxy of Gaz: Lobo's simultaneous comeback/last Top 40 hit. Disco-lite was not his strong suit.

uber-BOS3 France Joli, with one of the premier Donna Summer imitations of all time. And she was only 16 when she recorded this!

Ha -- Casey says she got her big break singing at a benefit on Fire Island. Gee, were there gay record company execs there, ya think?
