I missed the first three songs, dangit, and was on the phone while Helen Reddy played. was it good?

It's my favorite of her vocals.  A pristine reading of a dramatic 1964 Cilla Black hit.
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

"My Heart Belongs to Me" -- written by Alan Gordon, who co-wrote "Happy Together" and several other Turtles hits.

IDKT!  Babs gets BOS from me, just for catching my mood.

an unfairly forgotten H&O hit: BOS5 "Back Together Again".
I am thoroughly unable to catch the groove on that one.

depending which story you believe, it's either about David Ruffin or about the Four Seasons' comeback in '75/'76

Too many BOSes to count.  1984 was truly a golden year for chart pop.

We're around the same age.  I'd say 1983-85 were pretty sledgehammery, no?

Did you watch "Night Tracks" on TBS as often as I did?
I was more of a Friday Night Videos kinda kid.   ;)

Casey's '80s gives us June 11th 1983:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-11-83.pdf

Debarge! Champaign! and, er, a whole bunch of Katrinas.

I loves me some '83...but jeez Louise, whadda crappy week!

Yeah, not a lot there I'm dying to hear. I'm gonna spend the morning with Peter Young's JazzFM podcast, which I keep forgetting to listen to. He's doing a salute to Marlena Shaw.

You've also dodged another Journey bullet there.  Every week, I tells ya!   ::)

Would've BOSed Culture Club and DeBarge.  Was pleasantly surprised to see INXS making the charts as early as '83.

MJ- Wanna Be Startin' Something
Men at Work - Overkill
Def Leppard! Photograph
Flock o Seagulls - Wishing

HM:
Madness
INXS
Naked Eyes
Thos Dolby

WOS
Eddy Grant -- OY!

stuck in the late '70s: this week That '70s Casey is from June 17th 1978:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-17-78.pdf

and Casey's '80s hits June 20th 1981:

http://www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/06-20-81.pdf

Meaning we hear Champaign 2 weeks in a row -- and they only had 2 hits!

But that '78 chart -- we just did '78 3 weeks ago and we heard most of these tunes then. I hate it when that happens.

Do the AT40 geeks on the other board keep a log of how many times each year has been hit?

(And now that I'm thinking about that, has anyone tracked that for the AL 10@10 era?)

Yes, the geek-board guys say this is the 6th (!) 1978 show of 2011.

and mshray had stats on years for the Morey era; dunno if he's had time to complile for the 2 years since AL took over.

Won't be posting much beyond the first hour; we heard 75% of these songs 3 weeks ago.

But this Rare Earth "Warm Ride" thing -- a Bee Gees collab! -- is NTM. I can totally imagine the Gibb Bros (or Yvonne Elliman) singing this one.  How did this escape my notice in '78? VHMFRA.

Greece is indeed the word, say the economists. Yeah, Mr Gibb, writing a disco theme song for a movie set in the '50s makes perfect sense  ::)

BOS1 Chic. Everybody dance, doodle-oodle.

VHM BJ, stickin' it to a Cath-o-lik gurl, heh heh.  VHM Player's "...In it For Love"; glad I got to hear this one twice in a month.

If you stand too close to a disco inferno, you might have an eruption.  VHM "Ah Can't Stand the Rain". And like a window, I'll WOS Crapton's not-so-"Wonderful". "Cheeseburger" for breakfast again? ah that Buford Pusser was a pisser!

Wassamatta witchoo Mick?

BOS2 Celebration's delightful Beach Boys pastiche. And they're "Follow"ed by Genesis.

Rod was only joking; I'm too tired to do a window-ledge joke for Roberta & Donny.

Heard part of Hour2 in the car; not much to say but VHM Mr Manilow's "Even Now" -- I always interpreted that lyric as being about a closeted gay man who's left his male lover behind to marry a woman.

Meat Loaf got hit in the head by a shot-put ball? Ouch. Of course, it explains a lot.

Yikes -- a horriffic beginning, what with Stars on 45 and Kim Carnes unheezing us (last week's #1 & 2) and Billy Squier trying to stroke me.

How 'bout some Champaign? BOS1 "How 'Bout Us"

just call Juice Newton the Angel of the Remakes.  WOS Styx, of course -- and TANC, as we were just discussing bad attempts at sounding "New Wave".

Wow, I haven't heard this Carole Bayer Sager song since '81. Sounds like a mash-up of a half-dozen "smooth" ballads of the period. And speaking of "smooth": Grover Washington/Bill Withers and Stanley Clarke/George Duke show up back-to-back.

Just tuned in to this crappy song, which I've heard waaay too much lately.  Is there a God?

BOS1 "Sweet Baby".  Great Sunday morning listening stuff.

BOS2 "If"- Bread via LDD from a 12 year old?  Gawd, I swear they made this shit up.  I'm in the mood for some schmaltz, so it's hitting the spot.

VHM "Queen of Hearts".  I can picture my 9 year old self twirling around in my Gunne Sax prairie dress.

This Jesse Winchester song is NTM and I likey, actually.

This Moody Blues song is just the pits - Gemini Nightmare, more like.

Sheena Sugarwalls gets a VHM.

BOS3 "Winning" - Santana.  Probably the only song I like from him/them.  *Ducks*

BOS4 "Elvira" - Oak Ridge Boys.  This reminds me of the Barbara Mandrell Show, which I loved.  Um, papa, um, papa, maw, maw!

BOS5 "Lady" - The Commodores.  Takin' me back.

OMG.  "The Theme from the Greatest American Hero".  BOS6.  Talk about flashback!

BOS7 "The Waiting" - TP&tH.  Good freakin' tune and sounding refreshing in this set.

Another Fern Bar anthem:  "Hearts" - Marty Balin.  I'll have a Shirley Temple on the rocks, please.
