Short and Sweet

I stole this for my blog, but it's so short, no reason to go to my blog to see this:

FROM THE SUNDAY OREGONIAN'S "SHORT & SWEET" COLUMN:

"Other than telling us how to live, think, marry, pray, vote, invest,
educate our children and, now, die, I think the Republicans have done a
fine job of getting government out of our personal lives."

Someday soon we Americans are going to have to have the painful and essential conversation: Was our nation founded to be a Christian nation, or a nation of religious freedom?  I'm not one to look to "our founding fathers" as the wellsource for all wisdom, but it seems there are many among us who feel that Christianity is the national religion, and something large and uncomfortable is going to have to happen to disabuse them of this notion.  Lately I'm finding that any oppression I feel as a gay person pales in comparison to the oppression I feel as a non-Christian (though the two are in ways intertangled).
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

The whole fundamental concept that in our style of democracy, the minority is protected, and not abused is lost on most people.  It's primally important!

stupid is as stupid does. or something like that. for some reason "when i woke up this morning you were on my mind...i've got troubles..." popped into my head as i clicked on your link. but "i read the news today, oh boy" makes a much better headline.

wow, psychic energy -- I'm listening to a Classic Country station and they played Janie Fricke and I thought of you, princess... and here you are.

BTW when do you leave -- we need to organize a gathering. Margaritas at Chevys?

What Would Jefferson Do?
« Reply #28 on: July 08, 2005, 01:28:19 PM »
I've been working on this for a week, and it just keeps getting harder to wrap up, so at some point, I just cut and run!

http://ggould.blogspot.com/2005/07/what-would-jefferson-do.html

I'm hoping to get some dialog going with this one, there's so many parallels between the 'originalists' and 'fundamentalists.'

I apologize for the rambling
