FYI, The Drive is starting *their* version of A-to-Z on Monday; they'll pre-empt 10@10 for the duration. Their website says it'll last a week, so nowhere near the depth of KFOG or KBCO.

I don't know how they're planning to finish within the week; they're only in the M's now ("Marrakech Express," "Mary Jane's Last Dance" just now).

Hmmm... promote it as lasting a week, and then when it runs over it makes you look "outta control" -- genius!

Exactamundo.
Let's get right to it.

So did anyone catch how the Drive's ended?  I'm always curious as to how stations represent the Xs and Zs in these kinds of gimmicks.

Re-upping this thread as KFOG kicks it off again next Monday.  I guess the Morning Show crew don't get MLK day off, and I wonder if they will even stop to do 10@10 during the A-Z.

Gonna miss today's classic with an offsite 10:00 mtg.

Good point -- could be a good excuse to not play "classics" for a week or 2, then time it so the "last Z song" gets played right before Dave's triumphant return with new shows!  (Well, we can dream anyway.) As someone else posted, it woulda been nice to get an Inauguration Day set from Dave.  Speaking of, Rockin' Jim, the KPOO Monday nite Oldies guy, will be doing a show of songs about change (or with "change" in the title) next Mon nite (8:30- Midnite).  His occasional theme shows are pretty wonderful; he does a baseball songs show every spring.

Meant to post this yesterday.  When Benson was on doing his New Releases Thursday thing, Webster of course also brought up A-Z, and Benson made a point of saying that it was going to run in only one week - recalling an anecdote of Rosalie not geting it wrapped up on weekends past - and sounding downright stern about it.

Since Webster wasn't even here last year, Peter was explaining to him that half the fun is guessing which song comes next, and I was tempted to call in an bitch that if they really only go 5-6 days I'm going to be spending just as much time wondering why the hell they didn't play the song they just passed over.

ok, I've got one.  this morning at 8:15 or so, I turned on KFOG and heard

Alive And Kicking by Simple Minds
       ... then they played:
All Around The World by Oasis

Where's All Along The Watchtower?  Come on!  Hendrix, Dylan, Dave Mason, your hippie uncle's version?

You disappoint, KFOG.

I was just about to post the same thing!  I tuned in in the car and heard U2 "All Because Of You."

I thought, "damn, just missed Hendrix.  Might even have been a twin-spin."  Got to my desk & checked the Just Played feature (which I will say is way cooler than what KFOG had previously), and see that it's not even on the list.

In fact neither is "All Around The World".  According to this they went from "Alive & Kicking" into "All At Once" by the Fray.  So maybe the Just Played feature isn't as cool as I thought.

All the songs are really bad right now (sorry couldn't resist), as in U2's Bad.  Let's see if they play Bad Case of loving You, Bad Company, Bad Moon Rising, Bad to the Bone, and whatever else.

ETA: so far the Bad songs have been U2, B.B. King "Bad Case of Love, Robert Palmer, REM "Bad Day" and closes out with CCR.  I guess I won't complain about trading the REM & BB King for the Bad Co. & Handsome George.

(SPOILER ALERT!)

Got the KFOG E-mail today and they reveal that U2's "Zooropa" will be the last song. Thanks, guys -- now I don't have to listen!  ::)

I just heard one of the signature song arcs of the whole concept: "Cold Shot" - "Cold Sweat, Pt I" - "Come As You Are".

I recall this every year because it must have been 9 yrs ago* that they did this for the first time, and I called Annalisa to request something (that I've long since forgotten).  She asked me why I liked A-Z so much and I commented about going from James Brown into Nirvana.  And then within less than 20 min they aired a self-promotion bit with Fogheads gushing about A-Z, and it included my comment.  And they played that repeatedly over the course of the event, and even the next year, when this group was active.  Some of you old timers may recall this.

I bring this up also to note that every year they have hit this stretch during Annalisa's shift on Day 2, so I think they haven't really truncated it that much, despite what Benson seemed to imply last week.

*for some reason this conversation is etched in my memory.  It was the first time I called KFOG & I remember I was sitting at my desk at Kaplan, where I only worked for a year, so it must have been early 2000.  By June I was working at eFORCE, and not long after brought Gaz in for some part-time work, which was when he introduced me to the 10@10 Club.

Well I have to take that back.  They are really skating through, all the way up to the "I Love ___" songs by 11 on Wednesday.

ETA: and the only "I Love __" song they played was Joan Jett, followed by "I Need A Miracle".  Pretty sure in years past they have played at least a few of the following in between those two:

I Love You Like A Ball And Chain
I Love You, Goodbye
I Love You, Suzanne
I Melt With You
I Missed Again
I Must've Got Lost
I Need A Lover

AAAACK!

If they are gonna play "I Want You To Want Me", they had to play Chris Isaak's worthless cover?
