Free association: KROY, one of the top 40 stations mentioned in that Sacto Radio History essay I posted the other day, had this recorded bit about "Uncle Murph and his dog Fotchell" that they'd always play as a lead-in to this song. Never knew if it was something they made up, or something off a comedy record of the day (the Committee? Firesign?). Haven't heard it since.

wasn't Fotchell the name of Alice & Ray's dog in "Alices Restaurant"?

I liked this bit too:

Zep went no such route. They were into full-length furs and platform boots and exotic Middle-Eastern musical motifs, Aleister Crowley and Norse mythology and references to Valhalla and Thor and "The Lord of the Rings." You know, just like Spinal Tap. Only better.

It's the latter--heard it twice in '04.

I'd wager that it's one of maybe 3 tracks from that LP Dave has played, along with "It's Too late" and (maybe) "Smackwater Jack".
