Oh yah, was just thinking of the song we heard -- not reading and understanding...

Nice obscurity from Del Amitri.

Was that the song that followed Henley? I really enjoyed it, and I'm pretty sure I'd never heard it before anywhere.

Yup, appears to be called "Move Away Jimmy Blue".

And regarding the earthquake...I'll never forget that my band "The Random Numbers" had a practice that night at the Stanford Band Shak.  My girlfriend thought I was crazy to go there right after the quake because it was really decrepit, and would be condemned and destroyed a few years later.  Nothing of note fell on us, even though we were really fucking loud.

I've said this many times, but even if he'd never been an Eagle, this song and "Boys of Summer" would earn him legend status.

I almost agree, except he didn't write "Boys.."

so... he wrote the music and Campbell wrote the lyrics? per Wiki, Henley saw Joe Walsh driving a Cadillac (with a Deadhead sticker) on Sunset Blvd, which inspired that line.

per AMG:

The tune — written and almost entirely performed by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers — is melancholic and gorgeous, and Henley wisely dials down his histrionic tendencies to deliver the most low-key vocal performance of his career, singing the verses in a quiet near-monotone that perfectly counterpoints the beseeching chorus.

Didn't he write it with Bruce Hornsby?

Yes for "End of the Innocence", but not the other.

Yeah, in '84 when Boys of Summer came out, no one knew who Bruce Hornsby was.
Let's get right to it.

nasty flashback on the news account of the Cypress Freeway collapse -  one of my best friends in grad school, Kelly, lost her fiance there, although she never told me herself & I only learned about it a year or so later through a mutual friend.

Hope you're doing well now wherever you are Kelly!

You're missing Todd, For Want of a Nail, which followed a report from Hollister about a number of buildings collapsing in their downtown.
Let's get right to it.

if Dave wants cute segues, he could play a clip of someone talking about how well they're holding up, and then give us "My Brave Face".

You guys still out? We just heard Eurythmics, Don't Ask Me Why. Followed by the Alarm, Sold Me Down the River, which followed a clip of Pete Wilson (the governor, not the news anchor) saying how the feds were on their way.

Yup, I'm hearing the Dandy Warhols instead.
