These are *psychedelic* lyrics!?

Why, cuz the use the word 'groovy' once?

You've got a thing about you
I just can' live without you
I really want you Elenore near me

Your looks intoxicate me
Even though your folks hate me
There's no one like you Elenore really

Elenore gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You?re my pride and joy etcetera

Elenore can I take the time
To ask you to speak your mind
Tell me that you love me better

I really think you're groovy
Let's go out to a movie
What do you say now Elenore can we?

They'll turn the lights way down low
Maybe we won' watch the show
I think I love you Elenore love me

Elenore gee I think you're swell
And you really do me well
You're my pride and joy...

Elenore can I take the time
To ask you to speak your mind
Tell me that you love me better

Elenore gee I think you're swell ah ha
Elenore gee I think you're swell ah ha a a a

(For those requesting recaps: we started with Lisa Simpson, er, Mason Williams and "Classical Gas," followed by "I Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)."  Anyone know how they create that bubbly-vocal effect?

i think it's a phaser.

oh, yeah. crimson and clover, baby. that nice flangy guitar. maybe that's what they used on the first edition vocals. a flanger, not a phaser. or both.

this song is sooooooooo sexy. over and over.

Only if you're Cockney and pronounce it "wot."  (As in, "Wot is he loike, anyway?")

Yeah, I think my BOS goes to the Turtles as well.  One of the best examples of Sunshine Pop ever committed to wax.

I always heard that as "the Realm of Want", but the lyrics sites support your view not mine.

actually what she said was, they wanted to be psychedelic but the record company said NO... so they wrote what they thought was a parody of bubblegum pop, expecting it to flop.  And it was a big hit.

Oh, I thought she meant that they tried to have their cake & eat it too, making a psychedelic bubble gum song.

I always love it when this and The Amboy Dukes tune are in the same set; they're so completely linked in my mind as the two songs that summer that made me understand what this "Psychedelic" thing people were talking about actually was (since I was too young to do drugs).
