Is it speaking ill of the dead to say that he was a dick on digital-media matters?  His legacy to me is that he held technology back.

no, I completely agree.  And if you've not seen the docu This Film is Not yet Rated, about the MPAA, you should.

I was thinking when I read the subject line (and this is probably wrong for me to say) I wouldn't say RIP for the stuff he did. I saw a little of the docu a few weeks ago on IFC.
