LOL! I actually used to wonder if it was "alone" or "a loan" -- either one works, actually.

I also can never tell if Dave is doing some little private joke when he says "the tempin' Tempations" (what, they worked in offices to pay the rent?) or if he really thinks they were called that -- it was actually "the TEMPTIN' Temptations", of course.

It's REALLY funny you should mention that, because I was wondering the same thing.  I think I'd always heard it as "Tempin'", but later wondered why they'd say that since it doesn't make sense.  Did you actually hear people saying "Temptin'"?

I have ALWAYS heard people say "Temptin'" -- I mean, they're Temptations, so they tempt people  -- going back to '60s Top 40 radio.  One NY deejay (Dandy Dan Daniels) always called them "the tall tan talented tempting Temptations".

Maybe he's riffing on the numerous lineup changes they underwent from 1969 through 1975?

Imagine going to Man Power or some other temp agency and being told, "we have a position singing the bass part on "Papa Was a Rolling Stone" for the next 3 months -- interested?"

too bad Urth has jury duty.  He's gonna be bummed.

Certainly I would have been, but luckily for me they didn't start calling groups into courtrooms until about 10:35, I was not among the first called, and I got decent reception on my little pocket radio in the jury assembly room. So I heard essentially all of the set. Very nice. Really wish I could have heard the bonus track though. Hard to pick just one BOS--would have to be a tie between the Bowie, the Sly Stone tune, and the Stones.

And I knew Mike would post some variation on his "mellow galoot" line--some things you can just count on. :)

Dave made several references to the Carpenters on the morning show, so I knew it was likely to be somewhere between 71 and 74, say. He also played a couple of clips from his Carpenters box--a Japanese soda pop jingle that Karen did, and some radio contest aircheck that was more late 60s puker-DJ than Karen.

And as for the rest of my day, I once again was dismissed after spending a day sitting in a courtroom watching other people get questioned by a couple of attorneys. I'm a little relieved, but having been thru essentially the same experience three times now, I was kind of hoping to get picked so I could go thru the process of actually being a juror, not just in the jury pool. Maybe next time.

03/08/2007 - Thursday! Good times in...1972!!!

6.  Carpenters - Goodbye to Love

Is this the one with the long burning guitar(steel?) solo at the end?

Yeah, that's the one I was thinking of.  I also like the solo in their version of "Please Mr. Postman."

BOS2 Bowie, "It Ain't Easy".

So... '72 on a Thursday... what could be on tap tomorrow? another theme? Last '69 set was 5 weeks ago.

Could be a theme set, except we've had a few lately and next week is St. Paddy's Day, which usually means either songs about being Irish, or being green, or by Irish bands (but I digress).

Dare I say it...Soul Patrol?!?
Let's get right to it.

This set, for the third time this week, does not disappoint. Lovely Carpenters song but sooo sad. Why does love got to be so sad? Wait, that's EC.
The Wheel still BOS. All Down the Line too. Get's me on my feet & movin around.
