Election Day
« on: November 07, 2006, 10:06:38 AM »
One of the perks of living in an affluent neighborhood: It took me all of 11 minutes to walk to the voting booth, cast my votes, and walk home.  The site was very well stocked with volunteers and training manuals, the reg rolls were cleanly maintained, and HALLELUJAH the machines were analog.

Would that the rest of the nation finds voting to be a welcome responsibility instead of an hours-eating, logic-defying chore.

I'm going to vote right after the set & should be back within 30 minutes, easily.

illogic note - the polling place is in the Canyon Middle School, which naturally sits on top of a very steep hill.

Air America Studio video feed from their website.  It will be interesting to see how close Dems come to the Senate.

The House is assured, and by a comfortable margin. Senate's down to 4 VERY close races: Virginia, Montana, Missouri and Tennessee.

Oops, check that: Tennessee appears to have gone to the GOP'er, Mr Corker.

Allen is speaking in VA, but it's just to say "it ain't over yet".

The VA race is what is wrong with politics. Regardless of who gets the win, it will end up in the courts. I'm sure our fore fathers never intended that the political system would as dirty as it is.

I just assumed the Dems would not get control of the Senate, but 2 of the three outstanding races are pretty much over with the D's holding a slim lead, and the Montana race, with 60% reported, has the D with a decent lead!

Dare I dream?  I can't bear the heartbreak in the morning.

The Democratic win in PA is only a slight move to the left as Casey is a political moderate who is anti-abortion.

Also, a lot of the wins in House were won by conservative Democrats but Nancy Pelosi does get to control policy for the House.

My thought exactly--compared to Santorum, Casey might as well be FDR.
Let's get right to it.

The one winner that made me chuckle was failed former NFL QB Heath Shuler won his House seat in North Carolina as a Democrat (but a conservative).

And another former NFLer, Lynn Swann, a black Repub, lost the gov's race in PA.  The GOP thought they had it made with Swann, but no.

Swann went against a popular Philly mayor and governor in Ed Rendell.
