checked my Whitburn & you are totally correct, the corresponding chart entry dates are: 10/26/68 (my best friend from HS's b-day) and 3/6/71 (MY b-day!)

Makes me wonder why Marvin had so much trouble getting WGO recorded, which is why I was asking.

I think the issue with WGO was that Marvin wanted creative (producing/writing) control, whereas "Love Child" was the usual Motown staff creation, "daring" as the lyrics may have been.
