Certainly need some Los Lobos in there, but why the insipid Richie Valens cover?  Maybe to get credit for two artists.  Or...to make the seque to La Bamba more meaningful?  Anyway, could have been a much better song, like "Good Morning Aztlan" -- more relevant, eh?

Here's what we heard last year:

Santana - Carnival/Let the Children Play
Los Lonely Boys - Señorita
Concrete Blonde - Bajo La Lune Mexicana
Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio (Lo Mejor del Grupo!!)
Ozomatli - (Who Discovered) America
War - Cinco de Mayo
Los Lobos - C'Mon Let's Go
Calexico - Alone Again Or
Los Mocoso - Caliente
Jorge y Carlos - Luz, Amor Y Vida

And only one Santana tune--there's that unimpeachable memory of mine again. Same song as this year too.

Hrm... does Dave dare play Concrete Blonde 2 days in a row?

Agreed with Gaz on War -- not much of a song. But inevitable, unfortunately.

And if we hear the Ozomatli song again this year, does that make it a Katrina de Mayo?
Let's get right to it.

BOS to Calexico and the song that should be called "Hit the Ground Running" but I forget what its actual title is.  Made my Top 10 singles in Pazz & Jop two years ago.

No way they could avoid next week's KaBOOM headliners, but at least it's a different song.

I want to hear "Guantanamera", dammit!  Preferably the Trini Lopez.

At least we get a different Los Lonely Boys tune this year...

Trini was a BIG star at one time.  I'd prefer his original of "Mammy Blue", later covered by (of all people) Stories, as one of their follow-ups to "Brother Louie"

So... is Pazz & Jop dead now, without Christgau & Eddy?

"Tequila" is "the anthem" of Cinco de Mayo?  Seems a worrisome apprehension . . .

Well, Dave does seem to like to knock back a few, if his past blog entries about life around the Morey household are any indication.

Tequila... Alejandro... Jose... there's a pattern here, no?

Did you see his Aye Caramba for Tino? eek. Hispanic hotties.

VHM Malo, always a lovely flashback to springtime in NYC, when this was a hit.

And surprisingly under-represented in this theme.
