CG/VIP/LNG/KPOO etc Week of 3/27/06
« on: March 27, 2006, 11:46:27 AM »
is this our last week of CG? Hope not.

The Jukebox plays Pickettywitch, "That Same old Feeling", for the second time in less than a week -- this woman (Polly Brown?) really does sound like Dionne Warwick.

ETA: programming note; CG is an extra hour ahead (they went to Daylight Savings over the weekend, we'll catch up to them this weekend.

KPOO's Judge plays a Morey fave, Prince's "Something in the Water..."

...and follows it with Captain & Tenille? "The Way I want to Touch You"?? WTF????

Now it's Todd, " I Saw The Light" -- Judge really DOES want to be Dave!

wow, Meco's "Other Galactic Funk" -- a 15-minutes-plus jam that took up all of side 2 of his "Star Wars" LP.

And now the Guess Who, "These Eyes". Well, the LP was called "Wheatfield Soul", wasn't it?  Followed by the Jr Walker version of the same song. I love the way he mispronounces "pretend" as "pertend". A lyric sheet typo?

Well, Judge has been playing quite an array of stuff, but the KPOO stream is pretty crappy today.

VIP is fab as always today. Jackie Wilson, "Sweetest Feeling"; Teddy, "Somebody Loves You Back". And tons of stuff I've never heard before. Amazing.  Long may they wave.

those wacky Brits actually consider the incredibly white Cliff Richard soulful: "We Don't Talk Anymore" appears. Shee-ee-ee-ee-eep!

oo! Jermaine, "Lets Get Serious" -- that's better.

J-5, "Lookin thru the Windows", a forgotten gem from '72.

And here's Tavares' very nice cover of "Goodnight My Love".

CG-ing and Dean plays the Monkees' "Randy Scouse Git".  Probably the only place you'll ever hear that one (it actually charted in the UK, though they listed it as "Alternate Title").

OMGWTFLOL!  WLNG plays the Polish Prince himself, Bobby Vinton, "My Melody of Love". It's been ages.  Start grilling the Keilbasa!

And my all-time favorite Monkees song, to boot.  Poor Micky really didn't know what a "randy scouse git" was.  Lovely that he scored a No. 2 with that.

And the Bobby Vinton was omnipresent in my earliest years, as polkas were still part of everyday life in '70s Pittsburgh.  Roll out the barrel!

If this week is indeed our swan song with CG, Dean's going out in style: "MacArthur Park", "Rock'n'Roll (I Gave You the Best Years...)" (the orig Kevin Johnson version, not the Mac Davis cover), and now Bananarama's "Really Saying Something".
