I don't think I could come up with 40.  But "Hollaback Girl" and "If I Were a Rich Girl" would give Ms Stefani a twin appearance on whatever list I compiled.

Do you hate every version of "Mercury Blues" or only the one you mention.  Because, Steve Miller does it too.  Probably my favorite version...

1.  Rod Stewart, "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"
2.  Paul McCartney, "Let 'Em In"

A solid beginning...

And Alan Jackson did it too, but given the presence of "Chattahoochie" on the list...

I hate both versions I've heard -- Lindley's and Alan Jackson's -- but hear the former more often.

BTW, this should go without saying, but if I've included anyone's personal favorites, don't take it as an indictment of your taste.  Everyone got their something, and I'm sure a lot of my favorites would show up on a lot of your yuck lists as well.

I take it VERY personally that anyone could hate Jennifer Warnes. I may just go out and jump off the GG Bridge...

"Right Time" was written, BTW, by Peter "Do You Wanna Make Love?" McCann; his version of "Right Time" was the B-side of "Do You Wanna".

The unofficial motto of a music board I used to frequent was (and probably still is) "Your favorite band sucks."

Which puts it more succinctly that I ever could.
Let's get right to it.

Two Three thoughts on your list Gaz:

1) You have a critic's mentality that I never will, picking a lot of songs that a lot of people like.  My worst 40 list would be composed of songs that never were that popular to start with and which I'd never listen to again under any circumstances, such as Paul McCartney's "Temporary Secretary", or some truly awful song called "Love Is For Beginners Only" that I had to listen to every 90 minutes for two whole months back when I worked at K-Mart.  These songs literally would drive me out of the building.  Almost no controversy in my list, but my list would be truly and utterly unlistenable.

2) You are clearly using a wide range of criteria.  I know because we've talked about it that the reason your #2 made the list is much different than your reason for having #20 on it.

3) Only one FYC entry?????????
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."

--Carlos Santana, 2010

Yeah, "Margaritaville" is more for its sensory associations than the inherent qualities of the song, although "Cheeseburger in Paradise" probably should've made the list on its own aesthetics.

What's "Love Is For Beginners Only"?  I've never heard of that one!

What kind of fun is that kind of list?  I mean, sure there are lot's of bad songs, albums are full of them.  But if nobody ever heard them, who cares?

BTW, I'm a little drunk right now.  3 day weekend!  Woohoo.  Backpacking (not a euphemism) on the coast.  See you all Monday.
