well, this is a pretty nice surprise.

Several sets began with "One Step Beyond" so we'll see what song 2 is.

6/19/2012 - Tuesday! One Step Beyond in...1979!

 1. Madness - One Step Beyond
 2. The English Beat - Tears of a Clown
(News: Walter Cronkite reporting on the total eclipse of the sun)
 3. ZZ Top - Cheap Sunglasses
 4. Rod Stewart - Do You Think I'm Sexy?
(Steve Dahl - Do Ya Think I'm Sexy-disco parody)
 5. Frank Zappa - Dancin' Fool
(Video intro-Cheap Trick The Dream Police)
 6. Cheap Trick - The Dream Police
 7. ELO - Don't Bring Me Down
 8. Styx - Babe
 9. Patti Smith - Dancin' Barefoot
(News: Jello for Mayor of San Francisco-"There's always room for Jello")
10. Dead Kennedys - California Uber Alles (B.O.S!)

a lot to like, despite Rod the Bod and ELO.

Sooooo, at 2 minutes to 10 my loaner laptop decided to download some windows updates and then restart, thus preventing me from hearing the first couple songs of the set. And, I also have a 10:30 meeting, which means I am likely to hear at most 4 or 5 songs out of this one.

C'est la vie.
Let's get right to it.

I like the "apartment / heart meant" rhyme. Maybe "like" is too strong a word. I'm amused by it.

I'd like the ELO song better had they sung "One of these days I'm gonna kick your ass" --  "...you're gonna break your glass" doesn't even make sense.

Bathroom break: Styx.

My kid brother Chris played this ELO record relentlessly, so it took me a couple decades to re-like it.

I went to 4 formal dances my senior year of high school ('79-'80), 3 at my school and one at the invitation of a girl from an all-girls school, and "Babe" was the final song at each of them.

Did you see Colbert's tribute to Glenn Frey where he talked about "Desperado" being the first song he ever slow-danced to? You can find it on YouTube. Very sweet.

There's always room (heh) for a BOS2 from Jello and the DKs.
