Oooh, HM to Stevie, it's all about that kick drum going BOOOOUM--BOOOOUM--BOOOOUM--BOOOOUM

Anyone hear his new album, A Time 2 Love, yet?  I've heard excerpts and was underwhelmed.

ditto on the "underwhelmed".  got a bad review in EW, FWIW. They said it "sounds like the soundtrack to Stevie Wonder: The Movie."

BOS #4 for Stevie!

'Cuz if you really want to hear our views, you haven't done nuthing...

Oh ho ho dooo de whop

I'll reiterate my question from last week: Why are today's hit artists so afraid to call the administration on its bullshit?  Folks like John Mellencamp, Steve Earle, and Jonatha Brooke are doing their part, but they're hardly mainstream successes at this point in their careers.  We need more Kanyes, in spirit if not aesthetic!

Who's this cover of "She's Gone"?  I know Tavares covered it for a minor hit, but this doesn't sound like their version.

If you're stumped, too, then I don't feel so bad.

If it's not the Tavares version, I'm flummoxed.  They did several interesting covers back then... I believe they did Edgar Winter's "Free Ride" too.

A couple years ago on VH1 I saw footage of them performing "Free Ride" on Midnight Special.  Inspired choreography, and indeed, wonderfully wiggy taste in covers.

But speaking of wiggy covers, WOS to the Loco-Motion.  Had they dropped the "Railroad" by this point?  Most pointless cover ever, and that's saying a lot.

Although it was overplayed on WCBS til the station's demise, I'll give an HM to the great percussion (thank you, KC) on "Rock Your Baby."

We were waiting for that, and you did not disappoint.

BOS # whatever to the not-late George McCrae.  (Poor guy was reported dead back in the '80s and it took years for him to set the record straight.)

I agree, but isn't that completely at odds with your quote?

I don't believe everything I quote.  I just thought that was a great line.  (It was spoken by Stephin Merritt, I believe.)

Anyone know what that TV theme was that Annalisa just played for the Bonus track quiz?

BOS #1, Lou Reed.  One of my all-time favorite albums.

LOVE your avater Rod. Makes me happy everytime I see it.

Funny you should say that, Alicat--I could say the same thing about yours.

Was dealing with vehicular ills this am but did manage to catch nearly all of the set--only missed the Edgar Winter and K&theG while I was on Muni. (Not bad going from Forest Hill to Montg'y St. and only missing two songs...) although I'd love to have heard Easy Street--haven't heard it in a good long while. But I'd have been more bummed to miss the She's Gone cover--I had no idea who it was either. Replay here I come.

Pretty fine set in general, even with the assorted usual suspect (Lou, Bowie, Stevie). Not nearly as bothersome in 74 as say, the '85 usual suspects.
Let's get right to it.

I can't disagree with the WOS vote, in fact I got this album by mistake from the Columbia House record club back in the day & after half a listen never touched it again.

But I am afraid I have to disagree with this being The Most Pointless Cover Ever.  Madonna's "American Pie" wins hands down and I DOUBLE DARE anyone to make a viable case for anything else.

At least Grand Funk was in the all-too familiar position (c.f. Idol, Billy) of finding themselves past their prime & scratching out one more hit with a popular cover.  Madonna simply had no excuse.  Like DiMaggios' hitting streak, her achievement is unmatchable.

I know the Princess agrees with me.
