9 March 2015: it's... an "encore" from 1985
« on: March 09, 2015, 08:24:16 AM »
Heard the "generic" promo this weekend so I guess that means another week of "encores"...

it's 1985 with the Joan Baez clip to start --> U2 "Bad (live)"

I can safely return to WLNG now.

Today at least that doesn't bum me out a huge amount, since I have Apple Watch pandemonium starting any minute and dominating the rest of my day.  Such fun.
Let's get right to it.

Once again I will say this is a good varied set -- there seems to be some thought being put into the selection of these classics.

‎09/13/12 - Monday! 1985!

(Joan Baez starts Live Aid - "This is Your Woodstock.")
1. U2 - Bad
(News: Band-Aid organizer Bob Geldof comes up with the idea of Live Aid - two concerts on two continents.)
2. The Waterboys - This is the Sea
3. Jeff Beck - People Get Ready
4. Tom Waits - Downtown Train
(News: President Reagan remembers Rock Hudson fondly. Congress double AIDS research funding.)
5. The Smiths - How Soon Is Now?
6. The Jesus And Mary Chain - Just Like Honey
(Movie: Pee Wee's Big Adventure - Pee Wee Herman (Don't I get a last request?")
7. Dead Or Alive - You Spin Me Round
8. The Mary Jane Girls - In My House
(News: Michael Stipe talks about technology and buying a cassette player)
9. REM - Can't Get There From Here
(Movie: Clue - "I am your singing telegram.")
10. The Bangles - Manic Monday
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Looking at the date, this was one of AL 1.0's last sets before she left for KFOX, iirc.
Let's get right to it.

Mondegreen alert:

I have heard Beck & Stewart's "People Get Ready" plenty of times, but in the car just now instead of hearing:

"you don't need no baggage, you just get on board."

I heard:

"you don't need no baggage, you just pee on the floor."
"Music is the Earth, People are the Flowers, and I am the Hose."

Was that Waterboys song a bustout? and has it since remained one?  Anyone know?

looks like it was the only appearance it ever made.

Mike, where'd you get this "‎09/13/12 - Monday! 1985!" set list?

I tried to find it on the original date in this forum, but on 9/13/12 it shows "13 Sept 2012: it's... 1973!", plus (brief aside, I love the internet) it took me less than 15 seconds to confirm that 9/13/12 was a Thursday, not a Monday.

Not being critical or snarky, just wondering how you came across this.

Funny -- I searched for "joan baez U2 bad" to find the setlist and the post came up... but it was from 8/13/12 and whoever posted it originally did a typo. I didn't even notice when the actual post was made.
