So who is the Sky Pilot? Is he a chaplain, or God, or just some sort of spirit?
george bush was a sky pilot, weren't he?
Bush was not even close, sky pilot was the slang for the army chaplain, an active duty guy at the front with the troops, like Father Mulcahy.
My dad was nicknamed that by the youth group kids in the congregation he served in Falls Church, VA, from '67-'70. Most of these kids were total hippies, while most of their dads worked at the Pentagon or the CIA. The senior pastor of the church was a retired Navy chaplain, who had achieved the rank of Vice Admiral, then (& I believe to this day) the highest rank ever achieved in any branch of the armed forces by a chaplain. He was the hardest of hard asses.
