19 July 2013: it's a "classic" from 1970
« on: July 19, 2013, 10:08:30 AM »
want some whiskey in yo' watah?

Rob played this in the Peak's July 1970 set the other day; he pointed out that while randy Newman's orig of this was clearly meant to be funny, 3DN's is humorless -- they sing it as if something really terrible is happening to the guy.  That had never occurred to me but I think he's right.,

Hey, not sure who deleted the other thread for today's set, but I was in the process of merging the two of them.

Didn't notice it the first time thru apparently, but that anti-drug promo into the "SNIFF!" that opens Casey Jones was a rather well done segue.
Let's get right to it.

despite a few too many LNs, the rarities here are choice, namely Zep and EJ. I'll bail before "Layla" rears her overplayed head.

BOS1 Zep, "That's the Way", perhaps my fave acoustic-mode track of theirs ("Tangerine" a close second).  LZ3  remains underrated because the headbangers disliked it at the time

One of their best. Also sounds great today because other than Immigrant Song, the tracks have not gotten much airplay.
