BOS4, Far Away Eyes.  One of my top 5 Stones fake country songs.

The Stones have four other fake country songs? I can name a couple (Dead Flowers, Love In Vain) but what are yours?

"Country Honk", the countrified version of "Honky-Tonk Women"
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Agree about its LN-ness, but I have to confess I didn't know this was a cover for about five years after this came out.
Let's get right to it.

Nick Hornby would be proud.

But he plays the hell out of it -- BOS 6 for me.  He is one of the great guitarists.

Nine of ten songs fit into the mainstream rock category, and the late '70's was characterized by eclecticism and innovation. This set did not represent that well (YMCA as a change of pace doesn't cut it).

Every set can't represent every aspect of a time period.  This set did represent one aspect of '78 -- pretty much what I was listening to at the time (for better and worse).  '77 and '78 sets rarely inspire me much, and I can't say this one was over the top great, but it was enjoyable.  And no Boston!  I mean, how bad can a '78 set be that doesn't have Boston?   :P

For a RR set that's not a theme, this is at about the 90th percentile.

indeed -- AL did *many* late-'70s sets that were almost all New Wave and some folks complained that there was no mainstream rock, so yer damned if ya do and damned if ya don't.  Meanwhile it's clear that disco has been reduced to cameo appearances by overplayed classics (BeeGees, "YMCA", and the like).

Not saying it's a good or bad thing, but this set had no women. I wonder how often that happens.

I think "mainstream rock" is going to be the norm for this era. :-\

And anything older, too. Rarities will be even moreso.
