RIP George Harrison--six years gone
« on: November 29, 2007, 10:47:50 PM »
Was listening to the community station in Chicago where my friend Carrie has her radio show this afternoon (she wasn't on this week), and the guy that subbed for her mentioned that today is the sixth anniversary of George's passing on to the next plane. He then played George's I'd Have You Anytime from All Things Must Pass, which I hadn't heard in a year or two.

Six years. Man, where has it gone. So tonight instead of listening to the replay of today's set, I dug out my recording of Dave's tribute to George, broadcast November 30, 2001. Very touching--heavy on the Beatles (Because, While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes the Sun, etc.), but several solo tunes as well, and a Wilbury tune for good measure.

George, I am sure you, if anyone, are at peace in the afterlife. Could you please drop a little of that down this way? We need it more than ever.

Let's get right to it.

I listened to that set not long ago & had much the same sentiments.

I have this archived, if anyone would like a CD with it burned (or any other set in the Shraytabase with an 'A' in the very first column), you have but to ask.

Today is the ninth anniversary of George's passing.  Here's the story on the CBS Evening News Nov 30, 2001:

And the promo film for "Something" featuring the Beatles and their wives (at that time):

Again, another turn around the sun has passed since George Harrison ascended to the next level--or two.

Thinking back to the night he passed, and how I heard the news. I'd been at a show at Bottom of the Hill (Tim Easton, iirc). Came out, jumped in the car and turned on KUSF, and the DJ played Within You Without You, and another couple of George songs back to back (natch). I thought, "Uh oh, this can't be good." And sure enough, after the next song the DJ came on and announced that he'd died that day in Los Angeles.

I still need to see the Scorsese biopic. I suspect if it played in any Portland theaters it came and went without my knowing it, so it looks like it'll be Netflix for me.
Let's get right to it.

I don't think it played in ANY theaters, outside NY & LA, as it's 4 hours long.  It was on HBO a bunch of times and should be out on DVD shortly.
