The Drive, week of 6/13/11
« on: June 13, 2011, 08:04:21 AM »
Mon 6/13/11: 1980

that's what I like about you, Bob: you start a 1980 set with the Romantics. And follow with Pretenders -- they got new skank. Or something.

BOS Broooce (get well, Clarence!) "Out in the Street", wo-oh-oh-oh-OH!

Jackson Browne recycles himself on the boulevard. BOS2 John's "Woman".

Here in my car, I feel like a Katrina.  WOS REO Snoozewagon, all coiled up and hissin'.

There must be some misunderstanding: Genesis actually sounds good after REO.

VHM AC/DC's "Shoot To Thrill" -- heavy-rockin' cheeze for breakfast!

Ah! Donnie!  VHM.

Wed 6/15/11: 1984

sheesh Bob in the '80s yet again. and no set tomo'w ("Album Sides Thursday") and Friday it's a Father's Day thing.

You might think you've heard "You Might Think" one too many times. And you'd be right.

Bob ALWAYS plays the live T-Heads LP in '84. Yawn.

BOS Spinal Tap clip -- I'd've preferred a song by Tap rather than the Scorpions rawkin' like a hurry-cayne.

Yeah, Corey Hart, you keep telling yourself you "almost" got the lead in Back to the Future   ::)

BOS3 Broooce with the song Donna Summer turned down.

Early morning evening, April 4...

VHM Eurythmics. I'd like to, er, "dive into your ocean" nudgenudge winkwink.

VH can wait. BOS3 Dynasty -- oh, Alexis!

WOS Bryan Adams; WOS2 Foreigner. That was yesterday, indeed.

Cars - You Might Think
Talking Heads - Life During Wartime
Scorpions - Rock You Like a Hurricane
Corey Hart - Sunglasses at Night
Bruce Springsteen - Cover Me
U2 - Pride (In the Name of Love)
Eurythmics - Here Comes the Rain Again
Van Halen - I'll Wait
Bryan Adams - Somebody
Foreigner - That Was Yesterday

A case where the video was better than the song itself.  Call me cray cray!

BOS Bryan Adams.  You heard right.  (Spare the crater face jokes, plz.)  :)

Fri 6/17/11: all about Dad

Getting "Cat's in the Crade" outta the way early, at least.

Bwahahaha! "Come To Papa" ain't about fatherhood, Bob. But BOS1 Seger.

Happy (God)Father's day, JB. VHM "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag"

WOS Stones. Daddy, you a fool to release a ballad as a single when you're known as "the greatest rock'n'roll band in the world".

BOS2 and nicest surprise, F-Mac, "Sugar Daddy". Oh Ms Perfect!

least surprising: Tempts remembah the 3rd of Septembah. Dadgummit!

I'll be nice and not WOS Crapton's father's eyes.

BOS3 the Cat Man. Still lovely after 40 years.

another unexpected BOS(4): Broooce, "Walk Like a Man". Nice set-closer.

Harry Chapin - Cats in the Cradle
Bob Seger - Come to Poppa
James Brown - Papa's Got a Brand New Bag
Rolling Stones - Fool to Cry
Beach Boys - Fun Fun Fun
Fleetwood Mac - Sugar Daddy
Temptations - Papa Was a Rolling Stone
Eric Clapton - My Father's Eyes
Cat Stevens - Father and Son
Bruce Springsteen - Walk Like a Man

better than expected; I assume Larry on the Sound will be doing something similar.
