The Peak, 5/6/09: 1989
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:22:46 AM »
oy, we start the proceedings w some goat cheese, then L&R -- which I'm never that excited to hear.

But THEN...!  Some Geo Harrison!  and the 'Mats biggest hit  (aside: why are they referred to as 'Mats?  shouldn't it be 'Ments?)

Stevie Nicks    Rooms On Fire  -- booo, blah
Love & Rockets    So Alive  -- zzzz, snooze
George Harrison    Poor Little Girl -- Yay
Replacements    I'll Be You  - whoopee!

as in "the Re-placemats". Dunno who came up with that originally, but we've been using it forever.

BOS Roy Orbison -- She's A Mystery To Me

This coulda been written in 1964.   If it ain't broke, why fix it?

That LP was just wonderful -- and given that it was a posthumous release by a rock legend, I'm astounded that it wasn't showered with Grammys.

very enjoyable set, even the oft-easy target Stevie Nicks was welcome b/c it was NTM.  I'd replace Petty and Lenny, though, w something chewier, like Hoodoo Gurus, or Wire.  Wire came out with a further departure from their punky roots with It's Beginning To And Back Again, which featured "Eardrum Buzz," my intro to Wire thanks to Live 105.

Like Dave, Rob has a Fear of Pop in the late-'80s; I'd've dug "Walk the Dinosaur", or Macca's "My Brave Face".

Dave has played "Eardrum Buzz" a couple of times, and I was the only one who knew what it was.  Next time I won't be. ;)
