That said, this was a surprisingly good set to my ears.  BOS to Joe Jackson and his Frogger sound effects.

I agree!  I thought for short while about which Rush songs might qualify as dumb lyric examples.  I suppose if you are creating a complete world containing relic guitars from ancient history and priests who oversee the Temples of Syrinx, you're either dumb by definition or The. Best. Freaking. Drummer. Ever!
