I never knew this - do you mean, it went to #1, dropped, then rose again; or it charted, slipped, then resurged and became a #1?

No, just a similar situation to Elvis' "Way Down".  "Philly" had been #1, it began falling, dropped out of the Top Ten... and then moved back up a few notches for a couple weeks, after word got out that it would NOT be on his forthcoming LP.
