The merging of art and commerce
« on: May 25, 2005, 09:57:27 AM »
I've been noticing a new rash of popular songs in commercials of late. Specifically:

Curtis Mayfield-Move On Up (Ford)
Devo-Uncontrollable Urge (another car manufacturer)
Bruce Hornsby-Gonna Be Some Changes Made (Lowe's)

Anyone else notice anything?
Let's get right to it.

The Mayfield is for Toyota, I think -- and it depressed me greatly to hear that. Luckily CG plays the whole song quite often. And the Hornsby -- jeez, it was on the Lowe's spot almost as soon as the record was released.
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

Ah, I think you're right about the Mayfield tune. All those car manufacturers look alike.
Let's get right to it.

(Wow, have any of you tried to find an old thread? Like walking in by the third page!)

So this article's a month old, but very interesting as I read it now for the first time:

Wu-Tang 'sampling' Beatles?
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”
