There was Opera in the Park or some event in the mid to late 70's at the bandshell (is that still there near the museum or tea garden?) and she performed with Pavarotti. I think I recall Kurt Adler being there too and I was able to get their autographs after the performance. Back then I guess there was no security and fans must not have been threatening.
And who knew our Alicat was an opera buff? You're full of surprises, Ms. Ali!
And yes, the Bandshell is still there--it was one of the few things unchanged after the reconstruction of the DeYoung and the California Academy of Sciences (which is still under construction). I was last there for James Kim's memorial in February.
TANC, we went there today to see the Golden Gate Park Band do their patriotic shtick. It was fun!
