Joel Selvin/Duane Allman

This week's Selvin show on the Bone is an ancient (well, 1970) radio interview with Duane Allman, interspersed with various tunes by the Allmans and also some of Duane's back-up work.  I never realized that was him on Wilson Pickett's cover of "Hey Jude"!

There's some great stuff on the first Duane anthology.  don't know if it's still in print (certainly not in vinyl!)  He did a lot of the great  Muscle Shoals sessions.  In addition to the "Loan Me a Dime" track, he also did Aretha's version of "The Weight."

i met a guy named peter on saturday who once cleaned out records from joel selvin's house. i guess he was getting rid of them. peter came across THE nick gilder album, and asked joel, "how much?" joel said, "no way!" so peter asked him if he could listen to it. he and joel sat in the living room and rocked out to nick gilder.

Very cool.  My one visit to Joel Selvin's house was similar: he gave me a tour of his place (there's a jukebox in his kitchen and the entire basement is a library setup of vinyl, cassettes, and reel-to-reels) and then we listened to Sly Stone records (the reason for my visit was his then-in-progress Sly Stone bio).
