Oran 'Juice' Jones, "The Rain"
« on: February 16, 2005, 01:36:07 PM »
Chuck Eddy was kind enough to send me the lyrics to the whole over-the-top ramble during a conversation about argument songs.  So I shall share, being the mensch I am:

Quote
(I saw you)
Hey hey baby how ya doin' come on in here
(Walking in the rain)
Got some hot chocolate on the stove waiting for you
Listen first things first let me hang up the coat
(You were holding hands and I'll)
Yeah how was your day today
Did you miss me
(Never be the same)
You did? Yeah? I missed you too
I missed you so much I followed you today
(I saw you)
That's right now close your mouth
'Cause you cold busted
(Walking in the rain)
Now just sit down here, sit down here
I'm so upset with you I don't know what to do
(You were holding hands and I'll)
You know my first impulse was to run up on you
And do a Rambo
(Never be the same)
I was about pull out the jami (gun) on you and flat blast both of you
But I didn't wanna mess up this thirt-seven hundred dollar lynx coat
So instead I chilled -- That's right chilled
I called up the bank and took out every dime.
Than I cancelled all your credit cards...
I stuck you up for every piece of jewelery I ever bought you!
Don't go lookin' in that closet 'cause everything you came here with is
packed up and waiting for you in the guest room. What were you
thinking?
You don't mess with the Juice!
I gave you silk suits, blue diamonds and gucci handbags.
I gave you things you couldn't even pronounce!
But now I can't give you nothing but advice.
Cause you're still young, yeah, you're young.
And you're gonna find somebody like me one of these days . . .
Until then, you know what you gotta do?
You gotta get on outta here with that alley-cat-coat-wearing,
hush puppy-shoe-wearing crumbcake I saw you with. Cause you
dismissed!
That's right, Silly rabbit, tricks are made for kids, don't you know
that. You without me is like corn flakes without the milk! This is my
world. You're just a squirrel trying to get a nut! Now get on outta
here. Scat!
Don't touch that coat...
“The choir of children sing their song.  They've practiced all year long.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.  Ding dong.”

Absolute genius.  I've probably asked this before but have you heard the female equivalent on that Richard "Dimples" Fields record, "She's Got Papers"?

voila:

Well, well, well, what have we here
I know you thought I was all the way on my job by now
Well, I forgot my sweater and I’m on my way back
And I started to thinkin’
You sure been actin’ strange lately
And what is this I hear when I walk up to my bathroom door
You singin’ ‘bout some other woman
Let me tell you somethin’, Mr. Look So Good
From now on this house is where you used to live
My, my, my
Don’t we look pretty in that suit my money bought
You better come on downstairs and have a seat
But don’t you get too comfortable now
‘Cause you won’t be here that long
Now I’m not even sure, I’m not exactly sure about what you’re doin’
But I know you’re doin’ somethin’
And I gave you the best years of my life
Tryin’ to be a good mother and a good wife
I made you what you are, you hear me
I paid the house notes, I put you through school
I paid for that pretty car you ridin’ your woman or women ‘round in
Now if I can’t be number one, I will not be number two unless I wanna be
And right now I’m in no mood to be number two
That’s right I got papers on you
And you do understand, my dear, that you must pay me to be free
That’s what I said
You’re gonna pay me for my years and my tears
And all my wasted years
And I know bein’ with me hurts you
And I mean, you don’t dig my anymore, but I’m hurtin’ too
And you can tell that dizzy broad
You know, the one you singin’ about
The Miss Sweet Little Thing that’s always on your mind
That I’m not lettin’ out of this unless you buy me out
I’m not goin’ through no more hard times or bad times
‘Cause I can do bad all by myself, all by myself
Yeah, but I got papers on you
But now I’m throwin’ ‘em in the trash can of my memory
Now take your little albums and your raggedy component set that never worked
And you can scat
You hear me
Hmm, just use my life up, use all my body up
Use all my time up
Boy, I don’t know what to say about you
