Made it up to Twin Peaks area with literally seconds to spare.  Fine pyrotecnics as always, tho' I'd say the musical program was a tad less creative than last year.  Nicest surprise: Polyphonic Spree.  Most Inevitable Non-Format Song: "Let's Get It Started", filling the slot inhabited last year by "Hey Ya". Cutest Visual Pun: GREEN fireworks for GREEN Day.

Reviving this thread for 2006:

Fireworks-wise, nothing new this year (at least to my eyes).  In fact, they repeated the green-fireworks-for-Green Day visual pun (different song, tho', iirc).  The smiley-faces made a return appearance as well.

Nicest out-of-format musical surprise: Johnny Cash, "Ring of Fire."
Least welcome: James Blunt, "Beautiful". Not good to remind folks there are songs your station shares with KOIT.
Worst edit: that bizarre 2-minute version of "Born To Run."
Surprising omission: I was SURE they would shoehorn Gnarls Barkley into the mix.

I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but it would be a huge PR faux pas if they did. They have a great tradition going with this, and they get a lot of good will out of it, not to mention a good bit of mileage with the record companies, promoting a lot of up and coming bands (just look at this year's lineup). I'm sure those fireworks aren't cheap, but for the visibility they get out of it, they'd be fools to stop doing it.
Let's get right to it.

I caught the tail end of KT's show as I was working myself into position, & was down front & center for LLB's & the fireworks (for the 1st time I might add), and just before they started Dave said that the fireworks were the biggest in all of CA this year..."We spent a little more money this time."  So hopefully that was with Cumulus' foreknowledge.

I also didn't notice any really new pyrotechnics, but the whole show was much fuller.  Often where you'd only have 1 or 2 explosions going on, they had 4, 5, 6 or 7 simultaneously.  Also there were ground level fountains & cascades going almost constantly, which those of you further away might not have been able to see.  Really a great display.

And LLB's were really good, too.  I have now seen them twice at free KFOG events, but I'm gonna have to actually spend some money to see them at one of their shows this summer, because each set I saw so far wrapped in under an hour.  I really think they are best when they start jamming & alos there are a couple of tracks from their first album that I hope to hear, but haven't yet.
